Has anybody had any luck using either Gnatrol or GOgnats to kill bugs?

Someone told me either one of these products was a good way to rid soil of bugs, but I'm not going to just do something because one person said it.

- Has anybody tried either of these, or have any info or feedback at all about these products?

- Any advice helps!

Hey, so rather than add I always look at what I can do to naturally remedy that situation. You are probably overwatering. I would suggest you either let the top 3 inches dry out completely, water from below (by filling a wide enough dish with water and put the planter in to absorb from below), or you can cover the top of the soil with about 3" of sand. try that before adding chems

Fungus Gnats love moisture, wet conditions.
During the Summer they like to hang out in your sink/tub drain or other moist drains.
There eggs turn into Maggots that live in your soil or grow plugs.
The Maggots eat the organic material in the soil.
some times they eat your root system.

IMO- I encapsulate the soil with a @2" layer of perlite on the bottom of the container. (you want to cover your drain holes with the perlite)
Then a @2" layer of perlite on the top of the soil.

The fungus gnats don't like to crawl around on the perlite.

You can mix diatomaceous earth in with your soil or a layer on the top.
It's sharp, the bugs crawl through it and get all cut up, and die.
I had so/so success with it.

Good Luck on Your Grow

I've used them both in hydro.Gnatrol takes awhile to work and stinks.I didn't like it. GoGnats works immediately kills quick & smells like cedar. I'm in the swamps w bad gnats & I use GoGnats every grow.

So overall diatomaceous earth worked for you? and it did not effect the plant.

I use the perlite method in all my soil containers.
IMO- it's works better than any other product to keep unwanted bugs out of your soil.
and help to keep moisture in your soil.
It works better than the diatomaceous earth.

You'll kill all the bugs (Good or Bad) in your soil if your using oil based bug products.
Something to keep in mind.

The other thing is maybe the fungus gnats are coming from some place else.
Like your drains.

You get rid of them in the soil, but they might keep coming back to your soil.
Migrating from someplace else in the house.

I agree with charface make sure you know what bug your dealing with.
The fungus gnats are small. they look like fruit flys
They like to crawl around on the top of the soil
or hang out by your drain hole.

I also agree with WillieMazeHaze.
You might be giving your soil to much water.
something to keep in mind

I'm sure you'll be okay. your on top of things. it's good to try and catch a problem quickly.
Your doing a good Job :joint:

Thanks bro i appreciate it. I did catch it in the very early stages. Ima try to just dry up the soil first see what happens. Next time I'm gonna remember to mix in a bag of pearlite with my soil!
