Who are you going to believe, 500 economists and the CBO or a man who's never even ran a lemonade stand.

Small businesses make up 65% of all domestic employment, only 34% of small businesses survive 10 years.
These companies are not the big evil corporations Mr Obama likes to pit us against, they're not the 1% that progressives occupied, they're the hard working risk takers, they're the backbone of our economy and the president is waging a war against them.
Is Obama really this inexperienced and naive or is he calculated, cunning and planing a future US economic meltdown to claim, only the government can fix it.

Four Nobel Laureates and Three Wisconsin Economists Sign Letter

March 14, 2014

More than 500 economists from across the country signed a letter to President Obama and members of Congress urging them to scrap their plan to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.

The letter signees, including four Nobel laureates, argued raising the minimum wage would hurt the economy and kill jobs. They agreed with findings from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office that said 500,000 jobs would be eliminated under the proposed wage hike.

"According to CBO, raising the federal minimum wage to $10.10 per hour would cost the economy 500,000 jobs by 2016. Many of these jobs are held by entry-level workers with limited experience or vocational skills, the very employees meant to be helped," the letter reads.http://www.maciverinstitute.com/2014/03/more-than-500-economists-denounce-minimum-wage-hike-in-letter-to-washington/

Nothing is goin to matter as long as all the people in congress and the house representatives stay in their little cozy villas making millions and hundereds of thousands of dollars and the Fed Res. prints money out of thin air to "loan" the government at interest and collapse the dollar to nothing and have mult-millionaire lobbyist. easy fix..get rid of ALL of congress and the house of representatives and lobbyist..because they ARE NOT representing "we the people"

My point is those that are insulated from minimum wage earnings, working two or three jobs to not make ends meet, have lost touch with what has unfortunately become reality for many adults with families to support. If they found themselves underemployed their opinion would likely differ. I know, smallest violin.. fact is they're biased.

You're putting the cart before the horse with that thinking.
Most of those so called insulated workers rose up. they didn't get to where they are by occupying low paying positions.
And if they did find themselves unemployed, it would give us good reason to ignore their theory. Like BnB said, who should we listen to, the people who have proven themselves or those who are struggling?

perhaps it is YOU who is biased.

since you dont own a business, you are insulated from the reality of costs and profits.

how can you claim the right to dictate how much i pay my employees, or as an employee, how much i must be paid?

this is a matter that should be settled between the prospective employer and the applicant.

I can't make a lot of sense out of any of this any more. It is the real value of not taking sides. If I have to take a side to understand the facts, there are no facts....just partisan nattering. It is a very good test.

So, I look at facts and still don't take sides. But, it looks like to me, the minuimum wage had much more value in the past. And now, it has that value has seriously declined. Or am I wrong about that?

A federal minimum wage was first set in 1938. The graph shows nominal (blue diamonds) and real (red squares) minimum wage values. Nominal values range from $0.25/hr in 1938 to the current $7.25/hr. The graph adjusts these wages to 2014 dollars (red squares) to show the real value of the minimum wage. Calculated in real 2014 dollars, the 1968 minimum wage was the highest at $10.86. The real dollar minimum wage (red squares) falls during periods Congress does not raise the minimum wage to keep up with inflation.

I don't understand how you completely dismiss scientists and their global warming research because they receive funding from the government yet you have no problem embracing the right wing, MacIver Institute with numerous ties to the Koch brothers.

67% of climate scientist DONT assert that "Anthropogenic Climate Change" is real.

everyone with a brain realizes that increasing the cost of a product will increase the price of that product.

the two issues are very different.

Just ask anyone of these guys, all you have to do is stop being poor. Damn it if it isn't that simple! Just ask the economists at Fox.

Would that be nice. When my product was released for sale, cost was 65.00 and retail was 329.00, while my cost increased to 80.00 the free market (chinese copies on ebay) drove my retail down to 199.00. So my Margins went down dramatically while I compete with slave labor.

so your response to china's slave labour is to drive labour costs here in the US even higher?

when labour costs rise, any business which can do so, moves production to a lower cost labour market. as labour costs climb higher, more and more production will be moved to places where costs are lower.

the same holds true with regulatory and environmental costs.

china doesnt just run a slave labour racket, their regulatory costs are very low, and eco-regulations are non-existent.

lets just raise the minimum wage to $1000/hour, increase the regulatory burden, slap on draconian environmental standards which can never be satisfied, and raise taxes on profits to astronomical heights.

that will surely halt the inflation problem.
