You can't hate rich people for being financially astute... Its more of the ultra rich (Bilderburg group and the Rothchild family) that we to look into some more. Not your average BMW driving Joe Smoe who worked hard and went to school to make an honest living for their self and family. Stop being such a hater MM, there will always be a difference in class as their should be, but we shouldn't put up walls between ourselves and the other classes. But the CEOs of companies shouldn't be making 1000 fold of what the laboring employees make either. But ultimately its the employees that dictate their pay, and the employee market. If there is a lot of people willing to labor for cheap, than why would a owner of a company want to pay top dollar for the same work? IDK, just my thoughts on the subject.

The facts are that most people can't afford to eat right, so they eat crap because it's cheap. It always boils down to rich VS poor, it is a class war that needs to be waged., not an oil war.
as with anything else, the best food can only be attained by effort. class warfare only empowers those who lead, the followers are seldom any better off than they were before.

Undertheice ...

The Soviet State of Romania would be a good example. The populace, finding no food or goods in the markets and stores stormed the palace, dragging Nicolae Ceaucescu and his wife Elena out by their feet and executed them.

My sentiments exactly!

Ahh, I see ... we need a class war. Would that entail reducing the assets of the rich in order to hand it over to the poor? If so, when it comes to food, would you deny healthy foods to those with the means to buy it and serve them crap instead just to level the playing field?

Vi
In your case, I'd make an exception and make sure you were fed nothing but crap.

Q: Who says Med is a mean-spirited hate-monger who would starve all dissenters he could not successfully re-educate?

A: He does!

Keep it up, Meddie. You consistently prove me correct.

The better food for the rich argument is class war BS. It's all about choice. When I became a vegetarian, my food bill went down dramatically, that was in 1996. My grandmother was still alive at the time and had never heard of a vegetarian. The garden fresh meal I provided was deemed "hillbilly food" by Granny because it had no meat.

Good food can be had cheap. I'm sure people have heard of the Mediterranean Diet. If one eats every other meal at McDonalds, that's a choice. I can't imagine what my food bill would be if I ate meat in today's economic climate.

Whats your favorite choice of protein? Nuts and beans are suppose to have high protein concentrations. I heard certain beans (Fava beans.. They are Portuguese beans) contain a higher protein concentration than meats.. Is that true?

Do you eat tuna? And what made you become a vegetarian?

 Sorry for the random question:mrgreen: Thanks in advance.

Good questions. Actually the low protein argument against veggie diets is a myth. Most Americans eat far too much protein, leading to many health problems. Protein can be found in many non-meat sources. Legumes and nuts are excellent sources. Soy is loaded with protein.

I became a vegetarian in 1996 out of compassion. I believe it is wrong to kill animals for food. An ovo-lacto vegetarian, meaning I ate eggs and dairy. No dead animals in my diet. Fish is the same as meat from an ethical perspective. I became vegan in 2001. Exploiting animals is wrong even if we are not killing them, but we kill them anyway when they outlive their productive phase.

As I went along from the beginning, I kept seeing one reason after another in favor of a non-meat diet. You never see health studies urging people to eat more meat. Modern agriculture basically converts petroleum energy into meat. It is very inefficient and factory farms are deadly toxic to the environment.

WOW, I admire you.. Maybe one day, I too will go vegetarian.. *shrugs*

Would you eat eggs if you had 'free range' chickens in your back yard? And would you drink milk if you had a humble content cow in your back yard that enjoyed being milked? HAHA (you don't have to answer these :D)

So, do certain beans contain higher protein concentration than meats? (I guess I could just use an "onliners" best friend- the search engine.)

P.S.- I used to have a couple vegan friends.... They can't even eat pizza....

It was one of the easiest decisions I ever made and followed through with. Do what I did if you are curious. Buy a vegetarian cookbook and mess around. I recommend the Moosewood Cookbook by Molly Katsen, for beginners. I started cooking meals out of the cookbook and before I knew it I was cooking one dinner a week out of the book. One day I followed a cattle truck home from work and decided I would never contribute to that suffering ever again. I never looked back.

At one time I would have done the free range thing. But once I went vegan I would not even do that just because I don't miss eggs and dairy. I don't have a problem with it at all if someone else does it.

I no longer have that data readily available because I need no more convincing. It is available everywhere. I should put something together, but I really don't want to convince anybody, or even look like I'm trying.

I eat vegan pizza all the time. Soy cheese makes a decent substitute as far as I'm concerned. I do love pizza.

HAHA Thanks for the insight JohnnyO. Maybe I'll start by eating less meat, and wean myself off of it. I don't want to contribute to the malice and slaughtering of innocent animals either. Its just that I innately crave meats. I would like to make a difference(even if it doesn't make much of a difference:mrgreen:)... I really admire your morals in this regard.

Thank you very much. Try the cookbook suggestion. I grew up on meat, too. Going veggie is not impossible by any means.

Food technology is so advanced now that you can eat all sorts of faux-meat items if you need comfort food.

It does make a difference. That's the beautiful part. It saves money. It saves energy. It pollutes less land than meat does. I've never calculated it, but I would estimate I've saved over a thousand lives once you factor in all the cows, pigs, poultry and fish I did NOT eat versus the ones I DID eat prior to becoming veggie.

Johnny ...

I'm really trying to eat more in a vegatarian style. I no longer keep red meat in the house and rarely eat chicken. If I do eat chicken, its the "free range" organic kind. I still eat fish though. Totally into whole grains and I eat no processed foods. I like veggie burgers almost as much as I used to like beef burgers. Haven't had milk in years ... only use soy milk now and never for drinking. I only drink water, coffee and tea. Everything I eat is organically grown. I'm almost off of eggs ... but cheese? Man, how do you get off of good cheese?
