New Guy Seeking Advise On Greenhouse Growing & Strain Selection...

Hello everybody,

I am in the process of building a greenhouse in my backyard & obtaining the proper medicinal licensing.

I have never grown anything in a greenhouse before & I'm looking for advise on soil, techniques & strains that are well suited for a first time guy with a greenhouse. My greenhouse measures 10' square, with 94" tall walls & a peaked ceiling. The north facing wall & roof are solid with the majority of the rest being clear. It is located in the Pacific Northwest.

I'm seeking a strain that will relieve chronic back pain from a serious spinal injury. I'm also seeking a more uplifting & energizing type of effect to help with PTSD & SAD. I really don't need something that will induce couch lock as I have that problem to begin with. Along with advise on certain strains that will help my symptoms & grow well in a greenhouse, I also need advise on a reliable source of seeds. I have been doing some searches on the internet & I'm a bit overwhelmed with seed suppliers. I have no clue who I should trust or which company deserves my dollars over the others.

Thank you for any information as I greatly appreciate it.

So I take it that mj naturally flowers outside where you live? Or are you "like" in Alaska...
I'm not that far north. I'm along the Columbia River near Portland.

I am a complete green horn on this project. I'm reading up all that I can, but there is a lot out there to get caught up on.

Thank you.

Here in the northern armpit region of British Columbia we can leave our moms out in the summer with no danger of them budding because we get 18-20 hour days and at midnight it is still a little dusk "like". And in the spring or fall when the light is good for budding it's freezing cold. There are ways around all the climate factors but considering your back maybe autos.

just remember that regular strains (also the feminized) will begin to flower once the day length get shorter then 13 hrs so plan for that or maybe look in to Auto strains, don't grow as big but finish faster and they don't care about day length, they will begin to flower no matter what with in 3-5 weeks after breaking the soil

you can of course also play with the day length by starting small seedlings indoor under some fluorescent light and bring em out once you want em to flower (agin I dunno your day length so up to you to find out what suite you)

also, MJ plants is a light loving plant that thrive with strong light, specially in flowering, try to place your green house so it reside at least 5 hrs of direct sun a day, +8 is better

and do buy seeds, genetics are half of it, sucks to use +3 months on a bad bag seed

I can't really advice on where to buy, many good companies out there with a few bad once in between, do the research, also since you do want strains that do something specific for you and strains that thrive at your latitude, need to do the research

as a rule of thumps, Sativa dominated strains do better in warm climates wile Indica dominated strains tent to do better a bit further north with a bit lower temperatures

even here in the lower mainland, as it's mid-July before you see any gender and it just runs out of daylight and heat to really finish it up nicely.

I've done two indoor/sunshine grows, both were successful but neither matured fully.

I gave my buddy an auto last year and his finished by mid-Sept, so I'm going with an auto this year

If you don't want couch lock but you do want relief from ptsd and SAD, i'd go with a hybrid or sativa dominant strain. Once you get your med card, check out a couple dispensaries around you and figure out what strains you like the best and grow those!

Thanks for the advise, but unfortunately my state of residence does not allow dispensaries yet. That is one of the main reasons why I haven't obtained a medical card yet.

If you get shade cloth for your greenhouse you can flower the plants without regard to the number of daylight hours. Shade cloth for greenhouses comes in varying degrees of shade. Remember you need total darkness for flowering. Or in reality no more ambient light than that cast by a full moon. As far as strains for your specific condition it's probably best to call a local dispensary and ask what they offer. Rather than ask on a NEWB stoner forumn. If you need more info regarding greenhouse management just google those words and download whatever you need or pm me as I managed a few in my illustrious career.

remember you can always manipulate the light cycles even in a greenhouse if you can block light with a tarp over top of the greenhouse and add light with a light bulb when it's dark.

Any other advise?

Anyone?

Anyone?

Anything & everything will be appreciated.

How about a reliable source of seeds & a strain that I should try?

Thank you.
