All I can say is start with maybe 3~4 and pick a Auto Strain that is a (Reportable) a Good Yielder..
Maybe take a look at Herbies? I picked up some Cheap Auto's from there(But these just for Trial & Error Run) but these are Auto Regs..so you would have to pull any Males...cheap way to learn though(But probably NOT the best for Yield)

Could you recommend a good grow kit, Or should I buy the stuff separate. The grow room is in a detached house. Do you think they would here the noise or smell it?Yeah 8" would be fine(IMO) but do check out the smaller size's and more importantly the Fan you gonna use with it, just enter ya GR(Tent) size into something "Like" this > > > >

Then get a bigger fan than needed > more (cfm) the better, and the Carbon Filter is an added load to the Fan...plus any ducting used is an added load(That's why More Powerful Fan is better) but do check out the Fans Db(Decibel) rating...some are Bloody Noisy!!
