I was just wondering if I could just fill some solo cups up and toss the seeds a little under the surface. I mean works in mother nature right?
Can you sprout seeds in soil successfully?

You want some space between the seeds. Otherwise, you're going to be back on here next week wondering how to separate the sprouts without damaging the roots.

I was just being impatient, I wanted to get my mini sog going and not have to transplant. I think im gonna go grab some plugs and then set the world of fire.

Do It. Thats how I germinate all my seeds. (imo it's the best way)
The grow in my journal started with 12 seeds in the soil, and 10 popped up.
Decent odds, and I don't have to mess with the seedlings by doing the added transplanting step. Once they germinate, they got a few weeks to grow in the solo cup and develop their roots until I need to transplant them into a bigger vegging container.

I tried soaking in water first. It didn't crack open in 24 hrs so I just planed anyways. 3 days later this is what I have

Haha i was pretty exicted. I've recently had issues with Germinating. I tried the paper towel method with 3 big bangs to no success. This one is a Northern Lights AutoOooh 3 days later she pops her lil head out

I've always been curious how people germinate because all the time I see "I took 3-7 days to sprout out of the medium"
I honestly have no idea what people are doing, that is takes a week for a seed to come out the soil.
I do the soak in water for 12 hours, and they always crack 99% of the time.
I then put them on TOP of the soil for another 12 hours (The white tip comes out at this point and starts to dig.
I then poke a tiny hole not even a inch deep, and let the seed drop in.
About a day later, its out the soil and time to mist/ raise humidity for the shell to drop off.
Within a week of soaking, the plant already has it's first set of leaves sprouting.
If it takes 7 days for your seed to sprout, could just be you overwatered, underwated, or dug the seed too deep, possibly even compacted the medium too much.
On topic though (I like to rant)
4 inch pots 1-2 weeks then transplant into final container works wonders and no stress involved.

So your saying cannabis seeds don't fall on to the ground and eventually make their way into the soil wether it is through a birds feces or other act of nature?

If your impatient, then plant them directly into a medium. The paper towel method actually slows things down.
Here is one of the best things I ever purchased for growing from seeds:
A heated propagator(tray, dome, heat mat) and root riot plugs.
Moisten plugs with ph 5.5-6.0 water, put seeds pointy end down in plugs, stick in heated propagator. Make sure they don't completely dry out. You will have a tap root sticking out of the bottom of the cub in 2-3days. It will sprout in less then 5-6. I have almost 100% success rate with the method, even from 2 year old bag seeds!
JMHO, and if your doing soil and just want to start it in that(assuming it's a starting mix with NO nutrients), I recommend using dixie cups with your mix and sticking in a tray with the dome and heat mat underneath. Water when almost completely dry.
Also, I believe you should have a light on from the time you put them in plug or other medium.

I think simulating the most natural envionment leads to healthy plants, a.k.a. right into a medium, add water, heat, and light, and watch the magic happen. Like I said, with the heated propagator I always have healthy sprouts in less then a week with healthy white roots emerging from the cube.

Soil will work great, I've had best results soaking seeds in water overnight. Just make sure you don't pack it tight at all, and there can be no light penetrating the soil to the seed (make sure it's buried and not peeking at the surface).
Placing inside a moist rooting plug works the best for me but there are many ways that work just fine.

P.S. Perfect conditions for germinating/sprouting are 75-85 degrees and 75-85% RH. It's hard to do that without a dome.
THIS IS IMPORTANT: Once you have a healthy little sprout you can either remove the dome(if your RH in your veg tent or environment is above 50%) or you can slowly acclimate to your veg tent or environment if your RH is less then 50% by slowly moving the dome and letting more air in until it's completely off(1-3 day max). Hope this helps.

Should I have this in direct contact with the lights? I did have a little dome over the top but removed once it sprouted. Any thoughts?
