Honestly... It's not like he put up a swastika or some child porn or something.. I could care less if the dude was the biggest Richard in the world.. I pay him for his lights, not for his witty forum banter.. And his lights be beamin.. Kinda makes me jealous cause I think my ladies love his lights more than me.. Thems the breaks, right?

Dude has always been more than stand up with me.. Personally, I don't feel he crossed any lines (religious, political, racial etc.) that would keep me from purchasing a few 75's here shortly.. I think we should try to remember what it's like to be passionate about something, like it's obvious EH is about A51, and feel the need to protect/defend said thing.. Almost like a family member, ya dig?

Everybody is entitled to their own opinions, and perhaps some feel what he did is right up there with blasphemy, but I just don't see it that way..

Personally, I see this almost as the Beamer vs Benz argument I used to have with my brother as youngsters.. Both A51 and Apache have proven quality results, it's not a case of one being obviously inferior/superior than the other (like when I bought a Cali LightWorks and then bought an Area51.. there's just no comparison.) I just happened to purchase Area51 and when I got my first SGS, I fell in luv just a little bit (again, not with the owner of the company, but with the lamp itself.)

I bet a side to side would be more like comparing two different 400/600w HID bulbs than anything.. In the sense that it's not like one is going to grow that sticky while the other puts out some pidly sticks or something..

Hell, what do I know though lol

As I'm very satisfied with my 190 I will say showing money does not mean you're necessarily successful. You brought up communism and I wanted to point out that too many people judge one another on how much money they have. See society has taught us it's all about money. Pretty sad if you ask me.

More likely I'll be buying from Apache after this. I know I can't choose where my money that's profited goes but I'll be damned if I support someone's ego. It's one thing to prove your light is better or not a copy of your competitors. It's another thing when you flaunt your bank account to prove you can afford funding any competition.

Waaa cries the babies - ok, so maybe there would have been a better way to demonstrate that "it's all about the lights". A funded grow off would certainly do the trick.

Had I been asked whether the account should be shown, I'd have advised against it. BUT, it's valuable that he is proving the efficacy of his lights.

And it's silly to keep bitching about it. I'm pretty sure that those bitching probably have the least amount of money and have "penis envy". LOL

Rather than dig in the minutia, how about we look at the overall intention. I realize that's a bit difficult for children and those with a bit too much testosterone - but let's see if we can't all rise to the occasion.

Ladies ladies, calm down, i'm sure you're all very pretty!

Anyway, does anyone have any more opinions on the TopLed lights, specifically the Mars II's? I've read through this entire post which at first was really useful, but other than someone mentioning that one of the lights was found with aluminium shavings in it (ok that's not great but not exactly something a screwdriver can't remedy) i still haven't heard why they are so underrated. With 5w LEDs, and an actual draw of 180w from a 400w panel costing under $200...i'm struggling a bit to see why they aren't getting at least a decent mention on here!

I'm loving the Area 51s, but has anyone got the new Area 51 XGS 190 yet, and if so can give a comparison to the older models?

Apache do look nice, and i like the fact that they are certified, but i'm not in the market to spend enough to get multiple panels from them.

I'm basically in the same boat as the OP, $1500- $2000 to spend, but on a 5x5 grow space. Options are -

6 x 400w TopLED Mars IIs, $1,250 (Actual draw at plug 1080w)
4 x 700w TopLED Mars IIs, $1,300 (Actual draw at plug 1300w)
6 x 80w Hans Panels, $1,500 (Actual draw at plug 420w)
4 x 155w Area 51 RW 150, $1,800 (Actual draw at plug 620w)
4 x 195w Area 51 XGS 190, $2,000 (Actual draw at plug 780w)

Obvioulsy on paper the Mars IIs have it licked, which is why they are so tempting, but after reading this thread i'm leaning towards the Area 51s, or the Hans Panels.

Anyone got any advice for my situation?

The Mars ll have no lenses. Try and get actual light ratings from them.

Area 51 is a far more sure bet. But I have not had experience with Area 51. But their specs are excellent as is their rep.

No they are reflectors, and as with everything to do with LEDs i can find arguments for, and against lenses! :-?

Area 51 are obviously good, but twice the price for half the wattage??!!.....i'm going to need absolute proof they are twice as good before i pull the trigger on that one, $2k is a lot for anyone!

Mars II has no reflectors just primary optics on those generic encapsulated emitters covered with an acrylic panel http://www.topledgrowlight.com/weddings-events/led-grow-light.html

Why do people buy $500 gavita 1000w hps when you can have a chinese apollo 1000w hps kit on amazon for 200 bucks????? will the gavita give double the yields?? NO........it's about quality gear

How about we look at it this way, so let's see, a MARS 400 has 80 Zeners to go along with it's 80 LEDs, that's somewhere between 1/4 to 1/2 watt per Zener I figure, (ask them), so that's 20 to 40 watts wasted, (real draw), per panel, on diodes that don't light up and that's x 6,.....uhmm, should I finish? And don't even get me started on Asian budget, (or any for that matter) 5 watt diodes.....Grrrrrrr! And from what I've read, effective reflection of LEDs works best at the die level, the light that is escaping from a LED that needs to be reflected is usually not that useful for our purposes.

Unfortunately I can vouch for what you are saying here FranJan, as well. Wasn't the smartest decision in the world to buy these. But oh well. Live and learn. Good luck getting any real info from them. In real life usage they don't hold a candle to well, much.

I would take that 2 k and invest in hps lights hoods . you could live off the investment . how many led lights can you get 2 or 3 ? good luck ever getting your money back from the initial cost .

I agree, but I thought we were saying the main downside to a Mars II was the fact it had no reflectors or lenses....And it doesn't look like the BlackDog has either.

I'm not 100% sure that there isn't a tad too much patriotism in the optinions of some on this thread... The idea that American made must be better, and Chinese is rubbish is an absolute fantasy.

Regardless, I'm still massively confused, which is not a state I want to be in when parting with a significant amount of money. Oh well, I'll just keep reading and researching I suppose!
