I was merely repeating what I was told by a close family friend who is a RETIRED VPSO on st. Lawrence. He said the last that he was able to go (in the early 90's) he brought back a dozen fully automatic Kalashnikovs, each of which he got for about $75 and were locally stationed in the trooper outpost in Nome. And by the way, while we were there (Nome in mid December 2009) we went half way across the "Bering Land Bridge", which is national/state park and, mostly unstable ice flow at best, good seal grounds if you're a local hunter. Personally I have never been all the way across, the furthest out I have been is about a half a sno-go tank past Lopp Lagoon , and that's not Russia. I don't mean to propagate misinformation, only to spread my experience.
I'm sorry if I have offended you, but trust that I'm as Alaskan local as Jackie Purcell, Homeless Bill, and locked up imitation vanilla extract!
