Trim/leaf?

Hello all. One of my friends recently gave me a big mason jar FULL of trim, stems and leaf. I want to make edibles but have not seen or used any trim before. This might be a dumb question, but how do I tell if the trim is worth using? When I looked at it, it didn't have very many trichomes at all. I know it's not going to be covered like bud, but I figured I'd see at least a bit? Should I go ahead and make it into coconut cana-oil? I have never seen trim before ( just moved to a legal state ) and am very curious. Thank you very much in advance!

look at the bottom of the mason jar.. Is there a collection of gold powder that has settled on the bottom?

my trim is just as frosty as my bud unless he gave you a bunch of fan leaves that jar should be full o trichs.

I just checked and no not really. I'm thinking its more fan leaves now that I googled pictures of trim and leaf. Now onto my next question. Is it even worth using? I did try 1 quick butter batch using this leaf yesterday ( no decarb ) and got mediocre results. I don't want to spend hours turning it into coconut canna-oil if it's not going to be very strong even if I make it completely correct. Thanks!

No, you don't need to see sugar on the material for it to be good. If you make a proper butter, You will extract all the goodness out of the material. Believe me...I hash first, butter second...and 1 cookie will have you good

So you reckon it's worth trying to pull some oils and cannabinoids out of the fans etc?
I must give it a go, I like the idea of using every single part of the plant.....don't think root stew would work though

I have never used just fans so not sure how they will work, but if it's a mixed bag of fans and trim...go for it hun ;) But please decarb first. You really will notice the difference. This is where you activate the THCA into THC. It really is an important step.

I have heard a lot of people use the fans to juice with.

Yep for sure, I set my oven to lowest setting bout 140°, seems to take bout 45 mins to decarb properly.

Thanks for the advise Fumble, seems I've been dumping a lot of trim that I could have been using....although I did serve some big fan leaves in a warm goats cheese salad before. Raw they were a bit fuzzy and unpalatable but wilted down in a pan with a drizzle of rape seed oil and a splash of balsamic vinegar it could have passed for spinach.

That's a great idea for using the fan leaves. I am of the mind that you can't go wrong trying something out. Experimenting is lots of fun and you can come up with all kinds of good things.

I could kick myself in the butt for all the trim I threw away after dry icing it! I thought that all the goodness was all taken out already...so wrong! lol

I find that a little bit of the sweet sweet "rape seed oil" will really liven up any meal lol
