How important are fans?

So right now i have a fan built in carbon filter, i dont have it on all the time.
I have my plants in a tent so there is i think 0 air flow at all... should i get a fan to blow air on the plants to mimic wind in the wild? I have the carbon filter fan directly connected to the tent without duct, would it work?

You will need an oscillating fan blowing on your plants. Helps build up stems. As far as the carbon filter.... what kind of fan do you have connected to it, that little duct fan? What's the rating on that fan? Also, what is the direction of your fan? Meaning it should pull air out through the filter to help with odors.

your plants need airflow for carbon dioxide exchange (respiration), stem strengthening, pest prevention and to keep down the incidence of mold mildews and botrytis. so it is very important.

thx for reply bro!!yes it should be pulling air out so that it is negative pressure inside and fresh air will go in... but just dont think its enough... do i need air flow 24/7? if i just go get a cheap fan and blow toward the plants during day time should it be fine?

Get an oscillating fan, I keep these on 24/7. As far as the inline fan, because you are bringing in cooler air, this will help cool your room. I have my inline on a Thermo outlet. That way at night I only run that when cooling is needed which with the lights off, isn't often. I still have a small 6 inch fan blowing air into the room. When I get to Flowering, I will run the filter/Fan 24/7 to help keep the odor down.

just magine your head enclosed in a closed off tent just big enough for it to fit it, now imagine sitting there and breathing in it for 12 hours same thing your plants are experiencing, not enough to kill them but enough to make life sh**ty for them. sounds like a good idea bud and in the mean time goin in and spending time with them (blowing on them, talking and singing) i know it sounds silly but it works trust me

hey bro do you have any of ur grow room pic handy? A pic would help a lot, i see people been posting about light... but no one posts about fans... probly just becuase i m too stupid tho

Sorry, I don't. What you have is a good start! If your inline fan/filter is creating a negative air flow, that's exactly what you want.

Now, if you don't have it already you need one or two holes near the bottom of your tent/room to let fresh/cool air be pulled into the room.
I have a 3.5 x 7.5 x 7 "room". I have two holes one on each end of the room. One is an 8 inch hole that is passive as of now, I do have another fan I can add if needed. I also have a second 6 inch hole which I have attached a small 6 inch two speed desk fan to ducting that extends through the mylar and into the room about 3 feet. This ducting I made 4 holes spread out across the top and capped the end. This small fan and my inline/filter are both controlled by a thermo outlet (basically an A/C unit thermostat). Air entering is between 65 - 69 degrees and the room stays between 77 and 80 degrees during the day and because I have a room inside a room, my night time temps only drop to 72 - 74 degrees. Pretty constant. I also have a small cool mist humidifier that I use as needed.

helping big time man! thx so much for all th details
i have a hole at the bottom i think its for the use of inline fans, i ll leave that open and i ll go get one of those fans you can put on floor, so i ll leave the carbon fan open all time and then use the floor fan from time to time!

Yep... that's exactly what that hole is for. You should be good to go! One thing, if you want to save your filter, you can run the fan without it until flowering when you will have a lot more odor. Just a thought.

yea, atm i m just using it as a fan not the filter, so i ll turn it off , get a fan and i ll turn it on when the smell kicks in
