Supremes rule racist policies to fight racism is unconstitutional...go figure

The main problem is cultural. Doing well in school is "acting white." You get beat up for it. Disrupting classes and threatening teachers is a means of obtaining popularity, not something shocking that is shunned. So on and so on.
simply retarded and racist stereotyping there. desertdude tried to do the same thing wherein he attempts to appropriate education as a "white" thing. it's not. the issue is fundamentally much deeper than a cheap and false stereotype that you bring up.

Buck, I am not appropriating education as a "white" thing. I think everyone who wants to be educated and have opportunities should be able to do that. I have previously spoken of my desire to end the practice of funding education with local property taxes because I think it disproportionately deprives minorities and poor people from education and opportunity. But I am not the black community. The idea that being smart or doing well in school is "acting white" and therefore objectionable is profoundly disturbing and sad to me. But it's not my idea.

I am merely relaying to you the experience of my black friend who grew up in a predominately black area and went to an almost all black school. He lived this even if you want to deny it. When I've brought his experience up here in the past several other members in this forum claimed to have had exactly the same experience. And none of them are alone:

"Go into any inner city neighborhood, and folks will tell you that government alone can’t teach our kids to learn — they know that parents have to teach, that children can’t achieve unless we raise their expectations and turn off the television sets and eradicate the slander that says a black youth with a book is acting white."

Apparently President Barrack Obama and I are retarded, racist stereotypers for bringing up this issue. At least I'm in good company.

so you guys don;t think that the de facto segregation we still face, a remnant of actual segregation and institutional racism, has vanished already? because the demographic maps say it hasn't.

blue dots are black people, red dots are white people.

detroit:

it pretty much looks the same in every major city. our history didn't vanish overnight, historically disadvantaged areas still face the same problems they have faced for decades and centuries.
I live in Detroit.

There are no blue dots or red dots that I see anywhere here... My house doesn't have any dots on it? Should I put a dot on it?

I'm not white or black, what color dots should I put?

You guys constantly bring up Detroit...

Want the D? Come get it!

Saying the school is disadvantaged because of local economics is hogwash. Detroit Public Schools spends $15,570 per pupil in 2010 and large suburban school systems pay $10,846 per student. So the idea of saying economics is the problem is simple not holding water.
And what is the student to teacher ratio? Detroit has a hard time keeping teachers around, I used to date a Spanish teacher who taught near midtown and she left shortly after her car got broken into in the school parking lot. Sad week for me...

so here is the question. If two races take the same test and one of the races consistantly scores lower, what can we surmise?
That the lower scoring group is less able.

If these are intelligence or aptitude tests, then it means that race has, on average, a lower intelligence and aptitude.

And yes, every test of intelligence and cognitive aptitude I am aware of puts one race significantly lower.

Uncontrolled variables. If one black child and one white child were raised by the same mother and father, and had similar habits, it would make for a comparison.

You can't pull any argument about race intelligence from aptitude testing, unless literally every variable is controlled in the study.

That's like trying to find out which dog is smarter by taking a perfectly trained show-dog weimerainer, and a border collie that's never been trained, putting them in an obedience ring, and gauging how intelligent they are by how well they perform tasks.

Of course the dog with the most training will come out on top.

Given that the most intelligent thing you could think to use your education for was a job at Subway, perhaps intelligence isn't your area of expertise.

Stick to your cock twaddle, You get better mileage out of that.

I did no such thing. Don't worry, I can hold your hand again.

I said the educational achievement gap is related to black culture: "The main problem is cultural."

I then described the problem in that culture: "Doing well in school is "acting white." You get beat up for it." That's not a statement of my personal opinion, it's a statement of the problem with the culture mentioned in the first sentence. That's why I put the first sentence in front of the second one.

I am sorry that relationship escaped your comprehension. I would say that I'll try to make it more clear in the future but I'm not sure how I could have possibly done that.

so when did you call that racist stereotype "slander" (or something similar) or say that is was untrue?

If this is just you being spiteful at me, fine.

But if you really believe this, you are a fool.

You can't go out and land a good job, starting tomorrow, without having worked for a year.

You can start at a place like subway tomorrow.

I was bored more than anything and would have taken a job shoveling shit to have something to do.

Even tests like the LSAT, which are given to college graduates have the same discrepancy.

Any cognitive function test out there, the mean for African Americans comes in at just over one standard deviation lower than the average for white people.

One in six African Americans score over the mean for whites in damn near every test they give.

There is enough data on this to be conclusive.

Go refute it, you'd be the first.

Or you can stick your head in the sand, scream no to the top of your lungs, and call me names and UncleBuck, travisw "the token" and pinworm will like your post.

I called black people accusing other black people of "acting white" a "problem" that was part of what's causing a gulf in educational achievement. I obviously was not saying "Any black person who gets educated is "acting white"!"

you said, and i quote "doing well in school is "acting white"".

you said it as a statement of fact, you did not address it as the racist and negative stereotype that it is. you even went on to categorize blacks as helplessly violent right after.

all you're doing is spreading stereotypes and now trying to backtrack.

No, Buck, see the post immediately before that second post and the context is perfectly clear. Again, let me hold your hand and connect these dots for you since you're so incapable:

"If you've ever known a black person who went to a black school in a bad area you already know where the gulf in scores come from."

"The main problem is cultural. Doing well in school is "acting white." You get beat up for it. Disrupting classes and threatening teachers is a means of obtaining popularity, not something shocking that is shunned. So on and so on."

Surely you already realized this though. You liked Canndo's post, which quoted mine. Intellectual dishonesty is exactly what we expect to see from you, and you haven't disappointed here.

I asserted that that is one the cultural problems. Doing well in school is "acting white."
but that's a false and racist stereotype perpetuated by racists and white supremacists who want to appropriate education as a white thing when it is not.
