I don't know what pine does to soil, so I can't comment on that. I do know that mulching ash from fires into soil doesnt do it any harm at least. Get the soil real well aerated too. If you aren't in a rush to grow, do some root vegetables in there this year and it will get the soil nice.

I live in acidic soil with a lot of pine around. What i did last year was put down some lime in native soil turned real good, mixed in basic 10-10-10 slow release and let them ride, ended up putting some more fert out one more time(same slow release 10-10-10) and let them ride. I didn't spray with BT for budworms though, spray your plants with this stuff weekly or what ever someone who has actually used it before recommends. Believe me u will wish u did when you start pulling off dead buds. But even with the worms, I harvested about a LB off of 3 plants. I recommend finding something that likes FIMing and tie those branches down and let nature do the rest.
I did all this for less than 30 bucks and now I am hooked. I am sure I could have tweeked a few things and got a lot more out of it, but it was the first time i ever truely tried to grow. Make sure you kill those males. As soon as you can see balls.

Bag of Roots Organics Potting Soil per plant $15 per 1.5 cu ft.

You need to amend the soil to get great results. Dig a hole, drop in the bag of soil, plant your seedling, and water to harvest. Everything you need is in the bag and it's all organic. My outdoor plants love this stuff and I have the worst soil - clay.

Btw, I use Roots O on my indoor grows (30 day cook in a plastic container w/ water before use) I don't have to feed the plants, just water to harvest. Doesn't get easier than that. Not for seeds, seedling transplants only.
