Brown gunk and brown/red slimey airlines?! Help

What could it be? 24 hours after a res change it starts going and my reservoir clouds up. It clears in 3 days but I see a fuck ton of brown gunk shit then. My ph rises a lot and my temps stay under 70.. What could it be?

I'm gonna start running dutch master zone at aggressive strength do you think that will help?

You might be adding something organic into your res when you change it. If you are using any aditives, stop and see what happens.

We're using advanced nutrients.. I don't wanna use beneficial bacteria anymore as I've tried that and it still happens! I'll take a picture of the gunk later it's not on my roots it's in my reservoir and my plants look lush. Is it algae?

I Flushed my res a couple times with clean water then. Refill, and added a scoop of pondzyme and it cleared my res up within 12 . Algee takes awhile to form , but once it does and you don't shock(kill it) it will grow faster and faster. Are you using any belch , hydrogrurd , or anything like that to keep your res sterilized ???

Your air pump is creating heat, which in turn blows warm air carrying airborne bacteria down your airlines. This becomes a breeding ground for them, it's quite normal. The bacteria then get's blown straight into your nutrient solution.

It's a good idea to clean your air lines and stones in h2o2 or bleach on a regular basis, as this is probably where most cases of root rot starts.

As others have mentioned it's also good to do something to keep your res as sterile as possible with regular treatments.

Its hard to say what it is. Could be bacterial byproducts. You could try geting a small amount of some other pure inorganic nutrient line and see if that helps.

What's your nute temp?

I've run AN before-------never had your problem.

The cloudiness can be caused by ph up and down------have seen that before but would clear up in a couple of days in a 100 gallon rez.

I'm with nero --------verify the air pump thingie is not the problem.

Slimey air lines--------that's normal in nuted water.

My nutrient temperature stats under 70f and I get the flakey looking red brown stuff regardless. I bought dutch master zone which is chloramine and copper sulfate. Do you think running it would kill the algae?

Copper sulfate is a alge preventer . I use it in my swimming pool durning the 120 summer , work great as a prevent measure . There is a thread somewhere where it shows u how to use a bag of pool shock to kill alge in your res. can't remember the link tho sorry , or bleach . What ever you do I would just go ahead and get it done . But for sure take your airlines and airdromes out put I'm in a bucket of water with a splash of bleach and clean .

If it was algae would it not just get worse and not clear up after a few days? Newb here so just throwing things out there. Are you using hydroton? Could it be dust? I know that doesnt explain air lines though.

In my experience with alge in different settings such as my pool or turtle tank ,I can clean it and it appear to be gone but come back within a few days unless I kill the Algee then clean , so yea you got a point to it clearing up unless when he's doing his res change and it's breaking the Algee off the walls and then in a couple of days it has settled back to the bottom and started to grow again on walls ect..

Then you used/made it wrong. This thread will fix your issues if applied properly. Don't knock good advice man jeez.

Dont really think OP was knocking anything. Just wants to stay with a sterile res is all. IMO a sterile res is a bit easier to control and keep tabs on for newbs like myself but again just my opinion so dont start slammin lol.

Hmmm yup never gave that a thought. I used to get rust coloured film on my clear tubes but never in air hose that I no longer use, all DO is achieved through flooming, all tubes I now use are covered or black. I do use H2O2 every week as well.

Aquashield and dechlorinated water is the best solution I have found for slime control. if you are getting algea your setup is not 100% light proof.

I use aquashield and pondzyme in 100 gallons of water... dose it once a week and dont even monitor res temps. never had wilt from lack of DO or anything like that either.

one of the best things you can do to stabalize your system is simply make the res bigger.... use more water.
