Dont most christians believe christ and god are one?
I have no idea. But it seems kind of hard to be both the father and the son, but then again, I'm not a deity.

My point was you switched the argument from acts done in the name of Christ to acts done in the name of God. I was merely pointing that out.

Theology has always been fascinating to me.

growing up, it was all around me in a nuetral way. like a science. Its really interesting actually. a close family member taught "comparitive theology" at a prominant university. I would pick their brain. hence my interest. thought i would explain

I pay a tax in America man.
Is it a tax which targets you for your religious beliefs?

And morals arent dictated by religious leaders. its simply just not true.
Sharia law is religious law (morals) codified into standard law. And you seem to be okay with that.

you say muslims wearing the scarf is the rule. but if there was a muslims woman not wearing a scarf, how yould you know?
I would not know. Just as I can't tell a Catholic girl from a Presbyterian girl. What's is your point?

you lost me there

i think your smarter than me:mrgreen:
Hardly. I was talking about Victor Davis Hansen, and the book that Dave recommended. It's a book my father bought for him, but I ended up reading it (and kind of destroying it, shitty binding) first. It took me a little while to chew through it, as there's a lot to chew on. In any event, he released the book under a different title overseas, and it is often seen and used as a counterpoint to Jared Diamond's work. Mr. Diamond's work was actually turned into a PBS series by the same name of his book, Guns, Germs, and Steel. Overseas, though, it was taken quite differently than here in the U.S. It was seen is almost racist, and certainly ethnocentrist. The same can be said, and is said, for Diamond's works (I'm sort of into archaeology and this stuff has come up in some publications). Being an American, I definitely lean towards Hansen's understanding of our culture.

Both men are offering interesting theories as to why the west has won (succeeded) over the east. Jared Diamond thinks that it's more to do with disease resistance, and having firearms and steel. But this doesn't sit well with me, because guns are a relatively new invention, germs have always been around, and smithing and metallurgy are not at all unknown in the east (nor in New World cultures). The true difference, the difference that made a difference, according to Hansen, is the concept and practice of the free man.

Really, if you can get the book Carnage and Culture, get it. Then read it. I'm thinking I'm gonna reread it, but I've got to repair the shitty bindery that's NOT holding the damn thing together (if I were the author I'd be pissed about that). :)

Or, how about this one? Receiving a tax break for your religious beliefs. :D

Much of our western law is religious law codified into secular (standard) law. Dave, as a man brought up with no religion but well-exposed to Catholicism (more so than my Hispanic self), has an interesting POV in that he believes, and the more we discuss I am leaning this way, that the essence of our morals and laws do indeed come from religious roots. Now, for me, I combine this with the ideas of Joseph Campbell, in that there is a utility for religion.

When one considers what Muhammed was born into and what he tried to eradicate with Islam, it makes more sense. But he failed, the tribes always fought and always will fight. They have always oppressed women, and always will. But, they're not the only ones holding that banner. Think you'd catch me, wearing pants and bare shoulders, in the orthodox section of Jerusalem? Think again!

A system of laws based on the concept of Judeo-Christian tradition, like the 10 Commandments, is a far cry from Sharia law. The First Amendment protects us from the religious oppression through statute. You won't find such liberty in Saudi Arabia.

I'm not sure to what you are referring. I am against any statute which targets any religion, good or bad.

In the state I live, I am forced to subsidize religious institutions: churches, synagogues and mosques. I pay property taxes, but 'churches' are exempt from ad valorem taxes. Meaning I subsidize religion, and as an agnostic, that pisses me off.

Even with all our Constitutional protections, religion is a sacred cow. Americans are perfectly fine with it and that scares me a little. Sharia law scares me a lot.

So whats your point? Its not our country!

Our country has its own domestics problems, I can assure you that. The USA should NOT be policing the world and dictating how they should live their lives. We should NOT tell them that their culture is obsolete and should be readjusted to comply with modern day society. The same reason you should NOT tell your neighbor how to raise their kids. Constructive criticism is one thing, but forceful intervention (aka war) is another.

Candidly, its their land, and their laws! Their oil, and their religion. We should leave them alone, and then maybe they wouldn't be so volatile. They are in the defensive mode because the superpower of the world (the USA) and their butt buddies (Israel) are over stepping their boundaries.

The world does not belong to the USA, and thats the way it should be. A one world gov't(the NWO) is a threat to everyones personal life and liberties in this world!

That's right. It ain't our country. What I am afraid of is Sharia Law being imposed IN MY COUNTRY! I know people scoff at my fear, but that's because most Americans have been lulled into a false sense of security by mainstream media where the Islamists are concerned.

The worldwide caliphate is not a fantasy. It is a goal. And yes, most peace loving Muslims don't agree, but I also know their silence is deafening where jihad is concerned. They would happily go along with sharia law or risk being labeled apostates.

I don't use that label unless someone is stubbornly and willfully ignorant. Frankly, I think the term is overused, especially here.

I think I have used the term once in the politics section and that was many months ago.

"Don't agree with me? You're a SHEEP!"

HAHA... It was a joke :D

From time to time, I have a sense of humor. It just hard to portray it(humor) over the internet sometimes.. (I don't think a sheeple is a malicious word to call someone anyways. Its more of a light joke, if you ask me..)

It was a joke. More of an example, really. That's why I surrounded it with quote marks.

As with many things here in cyberspace, the level of insult depends on the source. Some members here draw that term like a fucking gun, expecting us to cower in sheepish fear.

Respectfully I suggest to you, that you underestimate the problem. Muslims believe that everyone in the world should abide by their laws, or they should be dead. As far as Israel, it has been widely reported, that the PLO has an organizational goal to exterminate the present Israel and all it's people (Jews). After that is accomplished, who is next, Christians?

So I believe the USA must continue to support Israel. Furthermore, the idea of "moderate" muslims unreal. All muslims share the vision.

I thought we evolved, as a race, and got over these religious wars that have killed more people than any other reason combined.

This is all it is, A MODERN DAY RELIGIOUS WAR. Do you think Iran is a threat to the rest of the world? Do you honestly think Iran is going to start bombing Israel? Iran knows that the USA has Israels back, and Iran would be asking for a death sentence if they start trouble in other countries.

Take a look at this Mockingbird. YouTube - Is Iran Ready To Take Over Europe?

"We live in an upside down world."

Edit- I don't believe anyone is worried about Iran, but rather the Muslim influence on the rest of the world. I believe religion may be the root of many political evils.

We still bleed, WeT. We still die. Until those are remedied, we are still human. As long as we're human, there will always be war.
