I don't understand why anyone would try to take the time out of their day to try to convince someone that something they believe in, a thing that gives great comfort and strength to them, is bullshit.
I don't participate in the "war on Christianity" paranoia that erupts whenever they stop letting the Giddens come in and give bibles and Jesus lessons to school kids in public schools. I wouldn't want those strange men talking to my kids either.
But God didn't show himself to you, or the guy next to me, he did it to me because I had been begging for years. And then when I called bullshit on it, he did it again.
I don't share the details of this story with anyone, except for fellow followers of Christ. But if you'd experienced what I did, you might think different.
The bible says the same thing, many different ways, in many different places; "seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened."
If you are true, and you look hard and long enough, God will find a way to show you himself. And it will be just for you.
Yes, the bible is a collection of myths and legends, there are some truths therein, and there are some head shakers. There is also a lot of wisdom. But it is a guide book.
The God in that book is very real. You just have to show him you give a fuck, and he will find you.

Look, bottom line: the power is YOU..god is YOU..some of us have a more developed psyche and understand the concept..then there are the "masses" those who must be spoon-fed, lacking the type of deep intelligence it takes to understand..what is frustrating to those of us who believe in their own power, is that not only do you not believe in yourself (which is very limiting), you try to inject that concept into others' lives telling them how they should live (same sex marriage)..what they should do with their bodies (abortion/birth control) via politics..and that is incredibly wrong.

You've not seen any of that holier than you attitude from me, at least not much. I think same sex sex is a sin, but so are a bunch of other things people do every day, it is no worse than over eating, something very common among the evangelical christianists.
You might be right. But my best thinking landed me in addiction. God helped me out of it. If I created him in my mind, so be it. It is a better way for me to process the world and live in it productively.

i agree..if that is what you need, don't change it..i'm not trying to convert your thinking..you just need to accept that that is your way, not everyone's AND there is another way..the bible is not the end all..that is the issue with those who follow the bible.
