I do not touch frozen and Fresh Frozen is an oxymoron by the way. I like my trims fresh (like making Charas) or dried AND cured (as do all Hashish producing countries).

I'm curious Frenchy. What is the advantage of a chillum in your view?
Also, I have several trunks that I have been drying for a while. Do you think It possible to make one from the trunk or is glass or clay a better medium?

Clay is the ultimate best because it absorbs some of the resin when you smoke and can be cleaned in a fire to pristine condition, traditional ways again.
When you smoke with a non porous chillum like quartz, glass and such you will have a resinous juice drooling while you smoke which change the taste.

a bunch Frenchy! I suspected clay had some quality that made it ideal in some way. I will definitely check that link. Sounds like a 'hemp trunk' is out. I very much like the idea of keeping it clean.

I had three... I had a Charlie, Bianca, Kanjo, my three favorite chillum makers. The Charlie was my favorite, plain terracotta color with a simple pattern on the outside, but the smoothest and best chamber. It cleans in seconds when warm, and cleans PERFECTLY. Kanjo makes very feminine designs, but on HUGE chillums. We are talking 2 to 3 cigarette mixes. The Kanjo and Bianca were gifted to friends I made here, travelers I will never forget. The Charlie ended up bleeding out the side eventually, years of faithful service took their toll. I still have him somewhere I will go dig in the boxes.
I don't like the Indian clay chillums. They are OK for a few weeks I guess, but I have not found one with a proper inside and a good stone.
We don't see many Italian travelers here any more. None that bring chillums anyhow. South Africa used to be an easy place for these things, sigh...
But my little one-man chillum there is tooled from a piece of solid Quartz crystal
VERY unigue. It has rainbows and water inclusions, if you are into that kinda thing it is a very powerful stone to start with. It is far from perfect on the inside, smooth enough but not quite like a good Italian chillum. I made the stone myself though so even amateurs can pack my chillum and it will smoke easy.I am getting pretty nostalgic here. Making me think of times that will never happen again, the late 90's early 2000's in South Africa were AMAZING. I spent the millenium festival in my home city surrounded by thousands of people that did not share my first language. It stayed a part on the hippie trail for a few years, now it is more Tanzania and Malawi. I miss it though.

Only way to really make sure you don't get the resin, wet saafi... But yeah the last thing you want is some of that resin drool in your mouth. EHRMEGHERD, it is a lesson you only need to learn once. No matter how wonderful the charas, a lip full of black tar SUCKS lol... And it takes a while to go away too. I don't even drink, but I was grateful for the whisky!

I miss my Chillum Mad Hamish, I was lucky enough to get a Chillum from an italian dude in the Parvati valley by the name of Renzo. He was already the best Chillum maker in 1980 and from what I heard is till making the best despite an amazing competition. Really trippy to see the evolution of the Chillum made by Italian.
The clay chillum are best mostly because of the way they take and absorb heat as well as the absorption of the tar because of the porosity while offering a perfectly smooth and glassy surface.

I hope you guys can do a video on this traditional technique. Will you be using a frame with screen or using screens made from the same material as the bags?

Same screens, 190 and 160 for a second sieve when necessary, sieving is sieving is sieving, water is a medium not the tool. We will do a few comparative techniques videos, to see if the art of sieving was reinvented or if there is still plenty to learn from traditions.
