Compacting / pressing down coco?

My friend who grows saw my grow last night and insisted I needed to *press down* on my coco real hard all around the pot to give the roots "something to fight against".

This goes against all my (naive) knowledge, which tells me that loose (as naturally loose as it comes) coco is good so the roots can grow easily.

What do the experts say please?

I wasn't going to. That's why I asked here first. I wanted to see if there was anything in what he was saying first. I take it from your response that there isn't, can you elaborate?
1. If you already have established plants and start pressin . Down "real hard" on your coco you'll fuck up your roots...at the very least it would stress the shit out of your plant
2. You dont want roots "fighting against" anything. what your friend said made zero sense.
3. when you water it it all compacts naturally anyway

Ur roots need air. Don't compress!

Thanks this is exactly what my thinking was - and why I'm using coco. He's a great guy and grows really well but he's a bit of a loose cannon sometimes!

hahahahahhaaaahhaa. that myth ranks up there with applying semen to buds to increase yield. your "spidey sense" served you well. stick with that and ignore your crazy friend.

Yeah, thank god I didn't blindly follow him on this one. Unfortunately as he was describing what he thought I should do he got both fists and pressed hard on two of the plants' coco.

Thank god cannabis is a sturdy, hardy plant eh?!
