Need help with soil choice

Hey guys, I need some help with what soil to use for my indoor grow. I ordered my seeds a day ago and I'm all set up for my first grow. I don't want to order soil and have it delivered just because I think it looks pretty sketchy. I live in a decent sized town which has Menards, Lowes, and a Home Depot like store. My question is can I get a good soil from one of those stores? If not, any other suggestions other than having to explain to my girl friend why I couldn't just go to the store to pick it up lol.

1/3 perlite [lava rock, rice hulls, pumice chips]
1/3 peat
1/3 compost [EcoScraps @ HOme Depot is OMRI] or vermicompost too.

I actually use a little less peat than called for and a little more compost. Then I add Epsoma Garden Tone. Letting it sit for up to 4 weeks is best, but I have used right away in some cases.

I water with coco for liming [Ca]
aloe
malted barley flour
rotted stinging nettle tea. [compost tea can be substituted]

What you're really looking for is a good source of humus. You want nice black and sticky looking dirt. Then you ammend it yourself and add some peat/coco and some drainage as suggested above. 1/3 1/3 1/3 is a good ratio.

Let it cook for a month after mixing. Check out the RLOS thread in the organics section.

Finding good humus can be pretty difficult actually. If you live in BC and to some degree western canada (mostly BC though) Sea Soil is a fantastic source.

Making your own is the best way, but if you can't - because it takes a long time - look for something dark and sticky. No bagged soil is going to be charged enough to finish a plant for you. Although you can do ok with straight Sea soil they will fade by the end and not do anywhere near as well as with a properly amended soil.

I should move your thread to a section where no one will ever see it. I'm from Philly.
But I won't. I'm a nice guy.
Here's what you can buy from the Depot:
Composted Manure
Peat
Perlite
On top of that you'll need minerals. I buy Azomite from Amazon or Ebay. I also use Rock phosphate from the same place.
I also use a handful of Epsom salts and some Lime.
You could add a few more things but here is a nice recipe that will take you from start to finish and all you'll have to do is water. Now how easy is that? Good luck. Go Eagles.

I would only add active mycorhizals to that mix. I always charge my soil with fungi. I've turned into Egon. "I collect, molds, spores, and fungus....." some soil from a meadow, and some soil from a forest, some fresh worm poop. if you have a healthy soil zoo, you will have great results. I heard abowt youz Philly guyz......whatz wit dat.......anyways :)

it depends on how good of taste you want and of what quality. a good super soil with all the amendments can cost over 300 bucks. plus it takes experience on how much to amend. the last thing you want is to have to flush hard at the end because you used to much nutrients. you could also burn your plants. The directions wont get you anywhere with all the amendments for super soil its just plain experience. easy tip for people who want the best results with little effort money and time. go buy roots organic original soil. 1 bag for 23 bucks. this has enough nutes depending on strain to carry you 45 to 60 days. about a week into flower top dress with more roots and keep top dressing as needed. if you want to get fancy with some bat guano compost tea ect even better

taste comes from genetics and cure. cannabis doesn't know what soil its in, or what its being fed; only if its needs are being met. the nutrition you supply, is first eaten by bacteria and fungi, and then shit out.................and then taken up by the plant. whether you paid $300 to feed your micro-organisms, or $30.
