Can you ever have too many tops?

I have this tiny little plant that I've been raising for just coming up 2 weeks (since it sprouted from the dirt)

I read online about people saying not top your plant until it gets 3-4 nodes, some people count the node between where the cotyledons to where the first set of leaves come in, 1 on each side. Some people don't because once the cotyledons fall off it's just the stem going down to the dirt ANYWAYS, not important. counting from the 2 leaves 1 on each side, my plant is 2 nodes high 3 if you count the stem going to the dirt.

I topped it at this point, or at least I thought I did ( the top on it was so tiny ) once I topped it, it immediately started to shoot out side branches and then the tops on the well.. top grew in and 4 of them grew in place of the 1 I cut off. I took both tops from both branches below my main level making 4 tops down there from 2. I've also taken all 4 tops from the top of the plant.

So when the branches catch up to the top it'll have 12 tops 2-3 nodes high.

Has anyone ever tried anything like this if so what were the results. Quite honestly I'm surprised it lived through the first topping because a lot of stuff I read said it would probably die due to stress. Then again it's the internet.

That all sounds great, but have you ever Fimmed?? I've been doing it on a few grows and it works oh so much better than just topping your plants.

Hah, well I went to pretty much every page I could find that had something that made even remote sense. Experience truly is king though.

I just wait till the plant is bout a foot tall then remove all the big fans that are under branch sites (except for the top 2) and it makes all the branches grow up, makes lots of tops, I like little bushes

Mine currently sits about 8-10cm tall if I had to guess.

Topping to me just depends on your preference. I like tops and as many big ones as I can grow!!

I'm always tying and doing selective pruning until I get what I want. I'm always trying to maximize space. And then when I'm happy, I flip em.

... did not know this- but was just recently wondering how to get branches going up instead of out.... I'll put this on the next girl up & check it out. Thanks for the knowledge drop.

Hahahaha, that was a FIM (acronym for "Fuck, I Missed") topping, even though it was accidental. Catch the top node as it's developing/protruding, before it opens to reveal individual leaves, and cut only about 2/3-3/4 of it off. Leaving just a teeny tiny piece of the top (got to play around and do it a few times, I've not learned how to do it consistently), it will grow 4 brances from that point, instead of only 2.
If the leaves grow out- didn't cut close enough, if it grows 2 branches- cut too short.
