also,i bought a 12 tube t5 fixture with bulbs for 170 on ebay,6 switches, turns off 2 tubes at a time, worked WONDERFULLY as an addition to my veg room,im sure it would work just as well for you, space considered of course.[/QUOTE
Haha damn rory you got down with the lighting recommendations :) I seen where you mentioned the that the aircooled was just 20 more and thats whats im going to go with

What's up everybody!? I know I said I was going to close this thread but couldn't figure out how and kind of glad I didn't.I ended up looking at a 600 watt hps/mh combo with the dimable ipower ballast and an air cooled hood.I'm really looking forward towards switching from cfls to hid lighting.I have $150 put back for the light and I'm about $15-$20 away from the price, but I was planning to wait until I get $200 saved up so I can order a 6" 230 cfm fan since with the light and fan it would cost around $190-$195 to get them both, and before I forget my grow space is 27 cubic feet if I round it up.I realize that this is an EXTREMELY small space for 600 watts but i was thinking it would be better to get the 600 watt and grow in that space for now instead of getting a smaller one then down the road buying a tent and wishing I had the 600

cool thing is with a 600, is that you can always add another 600 when you get to a bigger room. I recommend the 4" vortex for that setup, it's pricey, but I've NEVER had any problems with mine, and I have had them over a decade, with thousands of hours of usage, plus they are low ampage.
if you do plan on adding another 600w lamp, get the 6" vortex

After doing a little bit of math and figureing out my square footage I dicided to go with a 400 for now,I'm only working with 5 square feet (rounded down) so even with the 400 im looking at around 6500 lumens psf for veg and 11,000 for flower,if I were to go with the 600 I feel like I'd have alot of trouble with ventilation unless I had an extra $150-$200 for inline fans and ducting.I will say that I'd MUCH rather get the 600 watt.do you think it would be more efficien if I get the 600 watt and just run it at 50 percent or 75 percent with the dimmable ballast untill I can upgrade my ventilation?

From what I understand, 600w hps are the most energy efficient of all of the hps'. I'd recommend that because as you said, you can lower the power, and if you can want to really push extra light at some point, or add more plants, or space, then you already have the equipment.

If you're already putting down the money for it, deff go with the 600. It will be worth it in the long run; it will save $$ on your energy bill, as well as $$ when it comes time to upgrade. And most likely a higher yield.

areo flow fan inc sells really good axel and centrifugal fans. low wattage high cfm. the 6 inch axle fans are 240 cfm and under 40 watts. the 6inch centrifugal fan is like the vortex pricy but has balls and can cool 2 6

So that being said could a 600 watt in a 27 cubic foot room be effectively cooled if I just cut a 6" hole for a 6" 240cfm booster fan in the top back corner of the box for exhaust, and put an 8" hole in the bottom corner as a passive intake? I keep my bedroom relatively cold with a window ac unit, even on a hot day with the ac on it's around °60 ferinhiet

Do they have a website I can look at? Or can I just search the company name and find a link for Amazon or eBay?

sooo true, it's damn expensive when you first start, but after that it's not so bad, especially if you're going with soil and natural ferts. Hydro and aero can get pricey

Ive read that about hydro grows, one of my cousins was trying to convince me to go with hydro because he was absolutely dead set on his opinion that hydro produces yields with a higher thc count than soil grows but it seems like most of the info ive read on hydro(because I got curious about it) states that they do grow faster than a soil grow but a soil grow will produce more quality, and it seems like hydro is pretty high maintenance

Whats up man I was going through some stuff i had stored at my dads house and I came across an old fan type thing,I don't know what they're actually called but I know it looks like a bigger version of the fans they use to blow up a kids moon bouncer or slide.I know it displaces alot of air and I was thinking I might be able to use it as an intake fan on a speed control.do you happen to know anything about these fans?

EDIT:now that I think about it it looks like a fan out of a central ac unit
