I have fungus gnats I just seem to get them all the time. Any who did a bit of research on line after the lady at the hydro store wanted to charge me 28$ for 4 oz of azamax! So I went and bought at my local Wally World ground cinnamon, ground rosemary, and ground cloves. I mixed 1 tsp of rosemary, 2 1/2 tsp cloves and 6 tsp cinnamon in 6 oz of boiling water and let steep till cool. I will be using this as a foliar spray as well as top soil dressing. I know the cinnamon will kill my bennie but better then having gnats.
I read this thread and it got me thinking

So I will be testing it on one plant tonight and if the plant doesn't die then the experiment can begin!

Years ago, I took a whole jar of my lady's good cinnamon for a pest control experiment. It had no effect on the bugs, shit they seemed to thrive in it. Sure did piss her off though.

I am interested to see how this shakes out.

haha, i mean you could also try spinosad, i use captain jacks deadbug brew which contains spinosad and other things, it somehow took care of spider mites even though it wasn't listed on the types of insects it killed. I think spinosad is a pretty good thing to use in conjunction with safer soap type pesticides. I do it to my plants only if i see problems , but i also take them out, thoroughly wash them, water them, then pesticide them, bleach out the grow room with a nice diluted bleach, let it air out, re -wipe the walls with water.

i literally spray bleach inside the wall receptacles, one time i tripped the breaker but i feel like insects are attracted to heat, and there will be heat wherever electricity is. I even wipe down the cords , literally every inch of the room gets nuked

Ok so I filtered the tea and was it gross looking like I put egg white in it. It turned into a syrup and took a long time to filter. I mixed it with and extra 6 oz of boiling water before I filtered to make it a bit easier. I tried a 10:1 ratio( mixed with water) and no effect . I sprayed down the whole plant under over and inside everywhere .
Next step: tomorrow morning. same measurement of spices. This time sprinkle them dry over top of soil and spray with a 5:1 ratio of solution. Right now I am only doing this on one plant( in my veg room) I want to make sure that the rosemary won't burn. My girls have only been in flower for a week so I can soak them down with no worries.

Ok so I applied a dry dressing to the top two inches of soil

6 tbs ground cinnamon
2 1/2 tbs ground cloves
2 tbs garlic powder
1 tbs rosemary

Combined in a large spice shaker shake generously over top of medium( till all is covered ) let sit for a min or so till all the little bastards fly away. Mix with the top two inches of medium. Shake more on again in the same manner. Spray with spray bottle till moist so if they walk in it it will stick to them. I also put out baby jar beer traps.
Does 4 plants in 5 gallon pickle buckets. I will be bottom watering and feeding till they are gone. We will see if the larva survive or not in a few hrs. I will be making the spray once again but to a 5:1 ratio . May use this a weekly spray as a preventive method.

Only a few gnats running around in the veg room and none in the bloom room. None in the traps either I think they just abandoned the room now to do the rest of the veg room and make sure they don't make a new home else where. I dug down in the soil but didn't find any larva dead or alive so not sure about that but either way the life cycle is broken and they should be gone soon. I will keep top dressing the medium every week till I know for sure they are gone. I gotta do my seedling now hope they survive. I would be very upset if I lost them( cotton candy Girl Scout cookie and tangerine dream)

No worries. If it doesn't work out you can use the leftovers to make a pie. OK, maybe not a great tasting pie, but a pie nevertheless. :)
