My plants went from beautiful to sick in a matter of days

Mellow out. Do you feel the levels of chlorine in our water is harming you or anyone else?
I am not spreading harmful information. Look in anyone's garden that has been water-fed from a hose as proof.
Don't really want to debate this, but to say "to each his own" and that tap water in one part of the country, or state, or even cities can be very different from place to place. Some may find it perfectly ok, others may not.

in the CA bay area, it'll LITERALLY kill aquarium fish, if you don't treat it first.
Ask me how I know. I killed some of my African cichlids by not treating the water first.
so on that premise, I stand by my statements.
And yes I do think the chlorine levels are indeed harmful.

This is simply not true. Chlorine will absolutely demolish beneficial bacteria.
Chlorine is a poison.
In fact it killed many soldiers in WWI. It's harmful for the very reason they use it, because it kills micro-organisms.
that's a FACT.
normally I don't post aggressive posts, but you are spreading harmful misinformation.
They won't curl up and die, but you are harming the soil, which in turn slows everything down, they WILL grow, but not ideally.
If you are a hydro grower with chemicals, not so much, but organic growers? Very bad.
poor analogy betwixt the use of chlorine gas, and chlorine levels of municipal water..........you should enter politics :)
I like a 8% solution by volume of morphine sulphate...............30%..........not so much, I think.

my point was simply that chlorine is a poison.
Look, to EVERYONE, I don't give a crap if you mainline herbicide into your plants' stems, do what you want, but it's not fair to the people that don't know any better to say things that aren't true. If you grow organically, it's absolutely horrible for the medium. How is it that you don't think so?

Discovered in 1774 by Carl Wilhelm Scheele, who mistakenly thought it contained oxygen. Chlorine was given its name in 1810 by Humphry Davy, who insisted that it was in fact an element.

The pure chemical element has the physical form of a diatomic green gas. The name chlorine is derived from chloros, meaning green, referring to the color of the gas. Chlorine gas is two and one half times as heavy as air, has an intensely disagreeable suffocating odor, and is exceedingly poisonous. In its liquid and solid form it is a powerful oxidizing, bleaching, and disinfecting agent.

exceedingly POISONOUS.
I swear this is EXACTLY why this site is aggravating to me. Why argue factual things?

LOL......Anyone that knows about tropical fish knows you condition the water, which includes de-chlorinating it before you put fish in the tank. Fish are not plants.

And please...no offense.....but just because you think the chlorine levels are harmful does not make it true.

Listen.....I really don't care if someone leaves their water out to de-chlorinate it. It really doesn't matter to me. I just don't want to be told I'm giving out bad information when in fact I am not.

I have a friend that owns a professional green house and nursery....does he water ALL his plants from the tap...you betcha....all day long.

I golf on very nice courses that water their very expensive greens......with tap water.

So.....I'll follow those that know vs. those that say they know any day of the week.

Just about anything in it's purest form is bad for us. Again, we're not talking about straight 100% chlorine here. There's so many good things for us when taken in small doses, food, water, sun, even air to excess will harm or even kill you. Why are you taking the excess and using it as an argument against healthy doses?

Off topic, but I KNOW for a fact that when hoses get hot they leach petroleum products into the water. Rubber is made from crude oil
That's not good considering I live in SD and just had record breaking temps!! And i had to water my plants on one of the hottest days and it took considerably longer for the water in the hose to cool down. Might have fed my plants some nasty chemicals if what you say is correct:(

I was typing in my plant sickness symptoms on the web and that's what a lot of people would suggest but inevitably a lot of people voted against the idea for fear of it making things worse. I added some lime into the peatmoss and watered it down and let it soak before i prepared my plants but maybe i still lack some cal mag
In my experience, this is right about around the time when they start showing CaMg deficiency. That is, if you haven't supplemented with any yet or if it isn't in your base nutes already.

You NEED calcium and magnesium at all stages of plant growth, more so calcium though.

oxygen in concentrations of 60% fiO2 are toxic...........is oxygen bad? cannabis likes mg; go pour some elemental mg on your plants. and tell me how that works out. its your use of fallacy and rhetoric that invites argument.

I'll duck this pissing match and go straight to SOIL.

Your concoction for your growing media is lacking in several area's and that's your biggest problem.....your going to be chasing these problems all grow long.......

How about I give you a nice water only simple to do soil for the future.....this is a great way to "begin" learning soil building!!!

http://forum.grasscity.com/organic-growing/1116550-easy-organic-soil-mix-beginners.html

I like adding crab meal to this one and don't forget the rock dust.
