30 Gallon Pots- Newb

Hello all,
I am trying to figure out and plan my growing cycle/supplies to purchase. I have a good enough grasp of the process but need to knock out some specifics. I plan on growing primarily indica strains (Indoor grow).

My thoughts are :
4 plants per 1000w MH lights in Veg cycle ~~~ 6 weeks
2 plants per 1000w HPS lights in Flower cycle ~~~8-9 weeks

I am planning on having these plants in a soil-less mix of 30 gallon smart pots. I know everyone is going to say "wow that is such overkill" , so save it. I am trying to figure out the best way to have the least amount of plants and give them the ability to yield as much as possible. What is the right veg time for trying to grow plants in 30 gallon jugs? (consider that height and room are not the limiting factors, only time). I apologize if this has been specifically answered but I was trying to get feedback from anyone who had possibly used huge containers and the proportion of veg time vs. yield.

really though,30 gallons? it kinda IS overkill. Outside? Sure. But inside it's gonna be hard to deal with all that water transpiration, not to mention you can't just throw seedlings or clones into that big of a container, the container will hold too much water and the roots will suffer, so you'll need to grow them in VEG state for months before they'll even need that much room. You'd need at least 50-75 w per sq foot, to justify needing that much medium. You're gonna be screwing yourself out of at least a whole harvest just waiting for them, not to mention Indica heavy strains usually don't need that much room because of their squatty stature, if you want a big plant, i'd go with a more sativa hybrid. Some of those will just keep growing and growing.
But not saying you are doing anything wrong, just saying i'd do it differently.
The 30 gallon pot also is going to be a bitch to move around, normally inside plants should be somewhat mobile incase you have issues. or need to rotate the plant for uniform growth.
Just my 2 cents
Inside I don't think you'll need much more than a 10 gallon container.
------BUT, if you really want to, you could, i'd def use a big MH to vege them, anything less will be begging for stem breakage later, and i'd also pinch the stems throughout the veg stage to beefen them up a lil.
If I may ask, why did you decide on the 30 gallon?

even though i was only joking in my first post, and you were a bit of a dick to me, i'll help you any way, because i'm cool like that..
it's pretty much a rule of thumb for indoor growing to use one gallon of container per month of growth.. hope that helps..

man the people over at rols/no till thread seem to put clones into 30 gallons no problem
search for the thread and look at their plants, it should help you out a little with your questions

if it were me though i wouldnt go any bigger than 15 gallons

no! the idea is that you are making a contained environment that is "living" in the soil in the pot, thus why a bigger pot is better
they literally cut the plants and plant new ones right in the same container, it amazes me..
if they were to do outside i think they'd prefer doing it underground because temperature control .

the shit they do is so amazing, i have it on my favorites toolbar so i can check it out.

BIM Beneficial Indigenous micro-organisms
ROLS Recycled organic living soil
SST seed sprout tea
AACT
no till and cover crop farming- this is what they're doing in the big pots, actually a farming method

Nizza, love the info.... With that being said and with ALL due respect to Nizza, read his/her postings and agree with them almost always. With respect to CatFishPercy for his/her ambitious grow plan... but, if you truly are a newbie grower, I would suggest you tackle a few smaller grows before taking on such an endeavor.

I mean I wouldn't suggest you learn to drive a car in an indy car........ get my drift?

That would be my one and only suggestion.

Good luck on whatever you decide and keep us posted.
