where are you mothers?

Well if you have 10 plants ready to move you would have access to lots of cuttings to root. I kept moms and its a pain in the ass IMO when not needed.
so now i want to cut off all my top buds and some lowers and mids to get 7 cuts a plant, right before they go into flower? no thanks... And yes i know all about the pain in the ass on keeping moms. tougher then flowering in my book.

No, that is taking cuttings that may get an extra two weeks veg and have more yield. Having a mother is having a single plant you keep vegging just for cuttings, all of my cuttings go to flower.

When I was growing outdoors exclusively I kept moms due to winter but indoors I just think its a waste of power and effort but to each their own. And yes if you have the room then yes by all means keep a mom. I just feel its not really necessary is all. FYI i have had a couple of strains that did seem to degrade after a few cuttings but it was probably me that caused it lol. My problem is trying to find the perfect plant lol!!

Who said anything about cutting the tops off lol.

I don't think anyone is suggesting cutting tops. When I throw a plant into flowering, there is always branches that aren't going to make the canopy that would get pruned anyways, so take your cuts from there. I don't have the space to be keeping mothers and since I don't SOG, I don't need 90 cuts at a time.

Genetics do not degrade. The 1000th cutting will be the exact same as the original. What happens is people smoke it so much or so long they build up a tolerance to that strain.
I've suspected this for awhile/believe it to be true. I also believe that genetics do degrade or mutate after a while. You are much more likely to loose a strain by taking clones of clones. If you have something truely special keeping a healthy mother is the only way to go, IMO.

I have a 5x5 Tent where I have mothers, a Homemade 54 gallon Roughneck Hi-Top Aero cloner, and my crop waiting for the flower tent. I have plenty of space and enjoy working with mothers Bonsai Style. Its fun for me to keep mothers and trim roots and take clones.

I have a few crosses of my own and would like to make a few more so mothers are practical. I like to keep mothers as a fail safe if for some reason all the clones die from a pump/power failure or something weird.

To each there own, that is the beauty of this hobby, So many ways of coming to the same end result its all about finding what is fun for you.

Sorry, but i have to call bullshit on that one. I know of people that have had strains for 15-20 years from cloning and not mutation or degradation. It is and always will be the same genetic plant as the original.

There is scientific evidence that suggests it does, as well as reports from numerous growers. It can be very strain speciff mine had a Kali Mist that degraded big time. We kept thinking it was in our heads but my other buddy who runs the same strain(both from cuttings of the same mother) and keeps a mother didnt have that problem. It took approx. two years to start and decline but it definitely

The only time I keep a Mother is if it is one of my old time strains. I know a lot of the old guys that want my Acapulco Gold and Panama Red If I make a run and want to do the same next time I just get clones off the ones in Veg. Usually right before I flip them.

A clone is a genetic copy but that's only genotype, the actual expression of the genes (including sex...) can be different from the master copy. The common claim that a clone results in a copy of the master/mother plant is not always true. However, as long as the cutting is taken from a healthy plant it won't 'degrade'. Even in situations where DNA damage occurs the plant will repair itself ( DNA repair and recombination (DRR) proteins ) to remain the same ol' plant.

I find keeping mom's is actually very easy. I have mine in 5g smart pots ocean forest / perlite, they drink only 1-2 gallons each per week and every other feeding I do a full dosage of FF Grow Big and every 3rd feeding a little superthrive. They under 24H of 2x 200W floro's and thrive.. big time with little effort just curious why you feel that way and if I have to lookout for any problems with my own mothers in the future?

just the amount of cleaning and plant maintness one had to do. not sure the size of your mothers or the length of time u plan on keeping those plants as a mother. but as time goes on and many cuts get took, shit happens. trust me on that one. again i don't know your exact situation. u may only have 1-2 mothers that require very little.
