Curing jar lids

Hey Ope -

I've got several of these wire-lock glass canning jars with the rubber gaskets and have noticed that they seem to be the preferred storage medium here on RIU.
My question . . . Is there really any harvest/curing related reason the ones with just the canning-type lid and screw on ring wouldn't be just as useful in this? They actually seem to be more air-tight in my thinking.
Just wondering.

So basically the lock lids are just "hip" . . . and what is this "burp" . . . all I can figure is it refers to removing the top and allowing a fresh air exchange. Never heard any "BURP" (s'cuse me)

The good jars with the latch and gasket will give a little more consistent seal that screw-on lids in most cases. I have both kids of jars that I use for curing, they all work fine.

Hey Shame . . . new icon, eh? So what d'ya do about longer-term storage, like when your stash should last 6 months are longer??? And what d'ya do about them sticky buds in the jars sticking together while curing. Will that cease when they're "right"?

So putting jarred, cured buds in the fridge doesn't make them too dry once you allow them out in the air? Cool.

Well thats what im workin on now, I figure if I pack them in tight once cured and use a jar that seals ( I prefer a jar that clamps shut ). Do not freeze them it will cause outer trich damage.
If it gets to dry I will add some apple peels. Not sure how it going to work but its either the fridge or just in a cool dark spot in basement.
Try never to use paper bag method it will dry buds FAST<>

Yeah, I suppose there's a fine line in this. These days I only use fresh marijuana leave(s) to reconstitute any bud that's fried beyond deliciousness. I remember the apple peel thing from way WAY back . . . like the mid-60's. Don't recall liking what it did to the flavor, if my memory serves me?

When I was a kid we used that trick, I have had no problems curing in cool closet in basement but want to see if I can use fridge for better spaceing and climate control.

Went back to my old avatar, I'm giving Larry a break :mrgreen:. I have stored buds for up to a year in both types of jars, with no problems. Yes, after a while the buds will not stick to each other so much, especially if you do not put too many in each jar.

The difference in jars is none. The latch or screw type work exactly the same. I grew legal mushrooms for years and used both as some get dirty or just filled with mold. You don't want to open those just toss them. Whatever wally mart had on the shelves we picked up. Cases at a time. No difference in either. Working with the smallest tolerances and medically clean environment I can say we can put this to rest. By the way. Never use the dishwasher to clean your tops with rubber rings. Even after one run in the dishwasher you will degrade them enough to let one a small mold particle in. Saffron is much more forgivable then growing stagnant medium and mycillia. Not too much too worry about but it could still ruin all your hard work.
My final answer is They are one in the same.
