What's This?

Neville's Haze growing outdoors, from seed, sprouted in late April. Made the soil myself of compost, rice hulls, and perlite. Watered daily on drip. No nute schedule (I rely on the compost during the veg stage), I ask them what they need and they usually tell me. I've applied an organic tea I made from mostly bone meal and chicken manure one month ago. Also, have applied Fox Farm's Don't Bug Me, for the leaf eaters - Pyrethrum from chrysanthemum.

Have a healthy plant growing right next door, so I'm a bit perplexed. Looks like heat damage, leaves twisted and curled. It's about 90f some days which may be too much for Haze. Any other ideas? Thanks.

What kind of bug does that? There are some little holes here and there, probably grasshoppers. But never heard it seen curling up/ twisted leaf from bugs before.

Yup. I think so too. Those tropical Sativas hate the dry California weather we're having. Thailand it is not. I put up some shade cloth up to try to minimize the 10-2 sun damage. I hate to imagine what August will bring. The other girls are doing fine at least. Thanks.

those same sativas grow to 10' a couple of hundred miles south of you, in northern Mexico.

heat stress is rare in outdoor grows. follow my watering advice, and observe; imo.
DA, are you thinking it's an over/under water problem? They're all on drip so it'll be quite difficult to rely on a hose. I could try to water more, and not solely rely on what she gets in the morning. The leaves are not droopy as in an over/under water. They curl up.

daily watering doesn't allow root-zone to dry out and breathe. that is a violation of ideal growing conditions. whenever you have a problem, evaluate.
water
nutrition
ph
air flow
temps
if one of these conditions is not ideal, correct it, and wait. you can shade that plant for now, as to cya for the heat, but correct your growing conditions also.

Thanks. I'll check for moisture tomorrow and try to cut off some of the water.

pop the plant's drip emitter out and water by hand maybe. root issues, over-watering, ph.............all can throw some Phil Neikro knuckle-balls, in the way of plant diagnoses. that's why its so important to maintain ideal conditions.

southern cal? man......you are in Uzbekistan. you have ideal outdoor conditions. cannabis likes to dry out, before more rain finally blows over the Hindu Kush mountains :)

use it. I think you may be right. I've turned off the drip, there will still be a little run off getting to the plants in the morning, but nothing like the deluge I was creating. Though it doesn't look like the typical over water droop, I imagine that the ph would also be effected, along with other related problems. I'll keep you posted about the recovery. Thanks
