Locking down the og!

One thing about S1 being some of the "elite" cuts is some of the problems we've seen appearing in other crosses. Think of how many of the elites are likely to throw nanners out? Or how finicky they can be to grow? We all love good, unique cannabis, yet look what happens when people breed with them? How many cookie crosses have some intersex traits? I love a cool plant, but I really don't want to bother with intersexing plants. I much rather prefer stable genetics. Just my 2 cents
See I feel the opposite. I have found most plants I consider to be outstanding smoke to be finicky and have the potential to hermie. Sure it would be better if they were more stable but I am looking for the best smoke possible and not an easy to grow plant that yields buckets of mediocre smoke.

I have a thing for og, chems, and sours. Which seem to be very hermie prone and harder to grow.

I feel ya, I simply would hate to miss a plant with intersex traits in the garden and create beans in every plant of different sizes (seeing as I run a perpetual some could be microseeded or full out). I suppose that may make me somewhat "lazy" but it can be easy to miss if one doesn't pay attention. I like those strains too, but I've grown tired of S1 OG variants, and generally don't trust clone sellers. I know there are a couple out there in my area, but the last thing I ever want again is the destructive borg.

Did you deal with broad mites Tonight? I've heard em called the borg.... nasty fuckers.
Yes OgEvilgenius, they are the fucking devil! I couldn't figure out for basically a whole tent worth of plants at first what was going on. At first, it seemed like some sort of nutritional problem, perhaps a magnesium deficiency. It slowly progressed over all the plants. I used neem oil, made weird concoctions of pepper sprays with garlic, peppers of all kinds, and soapy water. Nada, the bastards came back. Tried cooling my room down as they only seemed to thrive in flower ( turns out they desire a nocturnal environment and I run 24/0 in veg), that didn't stop them. Shoved all the plants into the shower and had them in hot steam for over an hour, nothing. Bleached my space each attempt, they kept coming back! Finally I resorted to avid, not thrilled to have to resort to poison but other than leaving the room dormant, it was a last resort. I simply followed the directions, less is more, and didn't stay in my room (where my garden is) for 48 hours until it was safe. I know people have mixed feelings on it, but it does break down and the plants were in veg that were sprayed prior to flower twice (I killed off all flowering, spraying them would have resulted in having possible pesticides at the time of harvest). ETA I haven't seen those terrible creatures since. They honestly are the worst! Once you've noticed the signs, it's really too late as the plant has been poisoned and slowly starts to die.

The thing about treating pests is that usually there will be a few in a herd that are at least somewhat immune to whatever is being used. Those guys survive if you are not multipronged in your attacks. Use multiple vectors and you will take em all down and usually they won't get a chance to survive and reproduce.

Best to go with multiple angles of attack.

Nice project going on. Love the idea and im kind of doing the samething with my stardawg cuts. Im taking a commerce city kush that I f2ed looking for a male that smells the most of that raunchy chem and hitting my stardawg girls. Also plan on doing the same with a bunch of the rd ogs I have. This is an awesome idea man! I'm kind of embarking On a similar journey. I have some of the docs face off bx2 seeds which I'm going to get a male from. It would be amazing to have that actual face off cut though.

Trade ya a male for a female? ;)

2 ideas id love to voice.

1 being that running a nice pile of s-1's is a very very good idea. say you ran 99 of them and got back 99 different plants..... well now you got a problem and the whole idea of "locking down" anything but headaches is pretty remote. if you get back a big batch of the same with 50% or more leaning OG and having alot of the same traits then get boogying down on BXing real quick. I'm sure you knew all this already but i just felt like voicing it for the ones following along who dont.

another side perk of the big S1 batch is you never know you could land a seriously nice cut on its own. S1's have the potential to be better then your wildest dreams could ever imagine, they also have the potential to be soooooooo amazing but still herm if you sneeze on them(my current darth maul cut) and its absolutely heart breaking so this is the downside to "chasing jason" so to say

2 find a strain that is going to bring vigor and yield like a landrace of some sorts or whatever and try to dial in the OG that way. spend a few generations wallowing in new phenos trying to lock down the ones that were like the face off and just keep breeding them together.

REMEMBER. fem beans aren't the devil. maybe bring a kosher kush winner fem to the face off fem and see wutcha get? never know til ya test tho. thats the devil in the seed game!
