Hey guys im a new grower i recently just changed up my lighting, soil, and transplanted my girl . Im using 4 15watt cfl daylight bright bulbs is this too many ? They are all rated at 6500k and from what ive read it seems okay since its not hot in my grow box it stays at about 78-80 degrees . I also transplanted my girl into a bigger pot and used miracle-gro potting mix, i usually water her about 2-3 times a week since she is about 7-8 inches tall with 8 nodes and 6 more nodes about to start growing . Can you guys tell me how im doing so far with the light set up and the watering and soil ? Id appreciate it alot if you guys need pictures id be more than happy to show off my first grow attempt :)

Im hydro, so coco or water for me. But ive heard great things about fox farms. If I need to grow in dirt I use just that. Soil. Nothing else added. MG tends to be a little on the hot side and not a good composition for mj plants in general.

Pics will help, what size area are you growing in?

You can start growing a plant with 40watts per sq ft of growing area (A).

You can also grow a plant under 1000watts or more (B).

Obviously as the plant grows, better penetration can be achieved with more power.

Plant A and plant B will most likely look very different.

But obviously the more watts, generally, the heavier the crop (when good growing techniques are employed).

Only you can decide what is practical for your environment.

MG can be hot, some say the same of FF, I've never used either (I'm organic).

You can dilute the MG with a more neutral soil and perlite.

she is in a 4ft tall 2ft wide and 1 1/2 ft deep cabinet painted with matte white paint, it also has a small computer fan as an exhaust since i only have one fan (as of right now) i thought it would be more useful being an exhaust fan since it gets about 95 in the cabinet with the fan just blowing on the plant with no exhaust . Lots of duct tape till payday lol but i made due with what i had . Thanks again guys :)

Ok, 95 is too high, it is said that in the 90 plant growth is stunted somewhat.

Your area is too hot, ideally you want to be in the mid 70's.

If i put long pan (brownie pan, maybe?) filled with ice in there with it would it bring down temps any ? If not what else could i do to drop it a few more degrees ?

You are going to need odour control so you will need at least a 4inch carbon filter/fan set up for your exhaust, this should take your temps down by a degree or two.

You should also have a fan blowing directly on your lights towards your computer fan.

Alright will do bro :) and im not too worried about odor control since i have 2 200$ air purifiers going at all times in my room one by the exhaust fan and one right in front of it . But im going to add another computer fan on the inside to blow on her to keep temps down a little bit more . Thanks for all the help guys :) this site is awesome

your pricey air purifier is a puney weakling in comparison, if that is possible to a scrubber. They don't operate on the same principle. It is going to smell dude. You need min like herb man said a 4 inch. Its the basics of growing. Tent, light, scrubber, plant. Temps scary shit, again another reason to exhaust air. Moving air will only do so much.

Will do bro :) ive been doing some research and ive decided to go with the slyverstar t-5 4 lamp 2ft lighting system putting out 8,000 lumens at 6500k then when i flower im going to go with 3500k lights :) ... since it has 4 bulbs could i do 2 6500k and 2 3500k bulbs ? Or does it really matter THAT much ?

More light! I have 9 cfls surrounding my plant 6-23w 2700k and 3-42w 2700k. I see ur gonna scrog so get some nice big powerful cfls like 42w, i personally wouldnt go higher cuz the lower wattage cfls have more lumens per watt so its better to use more smaller bulbs, and make a good diy cfl reflector hood with atleast 6 of the 42w to get some intense light on those colas.
