Hello fellow growers,

What is everyone using for a mulch? I am drawn to trying a Barley straw mulch due to its beneficial enzymes, that I've witnessed keep algae off my 2 acre pond, but I'd like to know what others recommend.

Also, has anyone ever messed around with barley straw extract in their ROLS or No-till beds?

Thx!

Ck.

barley straw is good. I cant get my hands on that locally. I use wood chips, dandelons, nettle, vermicompost, comfrey etc..

Good call on the dandelions. Been wanting to try that as a mulch. No time like the present considering my yard looks like I grow them on purpose. lol
lucky. I have to hike up the mountain t the one patch of wild life... The rest of the dandelions in my hood. Grow sporadically and only a couple inches tall. I've been paying my nephew to collect them at his school and basesball practice. That's 2-3 hours away from me.

Your nephew will be farting around out in left field looking for dandelions when he's supposed to be shagging pop flys. That's a good way to get him moved down in the batting order hy. ;-)

lol

he does it after practice. Plus my sister has been dating his coach for a while.

my nephew is going to go pro. He goes to baseball camp and runs everyday. Surfs sometimes. He can play any position.

Hyroot, have you ever thought about trying a barley straw extract? It's commonly used for clearing ponds of organic debris and can be found anywhere that sells pond supplies, I got mine from the local feed store. I believe the product I use is by a company called Microbe-lift.
