Not sure if right Sub forum if not I do apologize. I only have one grow under my belt & I have never Fed my plants any nutes period. I feel Ill F*** up a perfectly good plant due to newbie mistakes.
I have always used Schultz soil (might be misspelled), It cut it for the first grow all the way through Veg & flower.
But the 2nd & 3rd grow It seems im haveing more & more problems with the crap. So I was pointed to Fox farm soil. Its a good drive for some but I plan on making the trip this payday. Is Fox Farm soil more reliant on plant needs so I would not have to nute feed myself? Also to start seeds should i also buy a bag of Happy frog because I have read FFOF is to hot for new seeds?

You dont need to feed for the first 3-4 weeks, after that you need nutes. Dont wast your money on a seperate bag of happy frog, just start the seed in a seed starting soil and pearlite mix. I use 50/50 miracle grow seed starter/ pearlite. Once your seedling has grown a good set of second leaves you can transplant it into the FFOF. I use and like FFOF and have found it works great without amending it in any way.

Thanks for the reply Budfarmer. Would it be viable to start seeds in the FFOF? if not ill just buy the happy frog cause I would have to buy some seed starting soil anyway.

& by amending the FFOF do you mean adding the pearlite to it or adding the nutes?
I mean just use the soil the way it comes from the bag. after about a month you can start feeding nutes. The trick is to constantly pot up to new soil. I go from a 4" pot to a 1 gal pot to the final 5gal pot.

Okay Is it unheard of to full grow without any nutes at all? Because as a new grower I would love a couple more under my belt before I mess with any nutes at all, I'm dreading it but im sure ill reap the benefits.

Using nutes is simple a getting the fox farm trio and following the schedule. The only way you wouldnt need some kind of nute, is if you make your own super soil, which is not cheap and it is a lot of prep work.

Hey bud, im about at the same point as you are experience-wise.

Id suggest just buying a bag of Fox Farms Ocean Forest. Also, buy the Fox Farms nutrients Big Bloom, Grow Big, and Tiger Bloom. Once you have all that, heres a good way to start.

Get a solo cup and fill it with the FFOF soil. Put your seed in and water, or germinate however you like. Let that seedling grow until it has a few nodes. Wait until you have 4+ sets of leaves, then take the cup apart and transfer directly into a 5gallon pot of FFOF soil. You can either pop the plant out of the cup, or cut the cup apart and slide the plant out from there.

Once you have her in the 5gallon pot, just keep watering for a bit. Wait until she gets a bit bigger, then start feeding her the nutrients at half or even quarter strength. You then move up to full feedings from there. Fox Farms is easy, your nutes will come with a pamphlet and the mix is usually in teaspoons/gallon. So 2 teaspoons of this, 2 of that, and 3 of the other in a gallon of water, then feed all that water to your plant.

Once you start feeding nutes, keep it up. Usually you will feed her nute mixed water, then regular water next time, then nutes, water, nutes, water, so on and so forth. That one bag of soil and three bottles of nutrients should carry you from start to finish :) and from there you can figure out how big you want to go after that!

According to the Rev (Skunk Magazine) you can use a mix of 1/3 earth worm casting, and 2/3 ocean and just add water all the way through, so its not unheard of...

See I thought so...I dont want to mess with nutes for a couple grows. I love learning & im just not ready to mess with it.

Around the 8 min mark is when he talks about just adding water to Ocean Forrest or other "good" soils.

He also talks about it on this episode of the Adam Dunn Show around the 35 min mark

yeah it's far from the best, but it works for a lot of people. Open Sesame is the shit, sorry but it get my plants flowers budding in 10 days, compared to 18-21 days without using it.Their liquids except big bloom are garbage. They sent me the whole line when they dropped the bushdoctor series, and it was just sad how horrible it was compared to their competitors products in those areas.

I also tried the lucky dog vs pro-mix and it was awful. stayed way too wet compared to pro-mix, threw off my feeding regimen causing the yield to be lower. When i told them about it they said that they were hearing the same things from other growers and were gonna change it ASAP.

IDK man i work at a hydro shop too, and we get some pretty tasty samples of fox farm grown product, but yield is completely shit. You cant just run something once and expect it to be better than a system that you are ultra familiar with. We sell the fuck out of fox farm, I like having it in the store just because it brings customers in who i can turn on to better alternatives.

wow 941Mick, those were very informative videos. Thank you everyone for your reply's. I love the thought of Organic all the way & everything pre added to soil so the plant wants it WELL it is already there to take.

Well our growers are mainly growing using Advanced, H&G, and Soul Synthetics. Noobs just come running for the fox farm, leaving me to edumacate them lol

Fuck canna and their exclusive 20sq mile BS, although If I was ever going to switch mediums it would be to their coco.

If your growing for yourself man go for it, it's kinda a pain in a production garden IMO, but yeah that info is good for all growers no matter what your style. The Adam Dunn show is the shit on every Wedsday at 130 eastern time, if you didnt know he is the owner of TH Seeds.
