Is there such a thing as too many tops?

What's up fellow growers?

I have a couple plants about 5 ft tall that have been topped twice. Once when they were young and had several nodes and again when they started to branch out. These plants seem to be naturally branchy to begin with and now sport about 100 tops, possibly more.

I've never grown plants with this structure and am a bit nervous that they will have tiny buds come harvest. I understand that plants are limited by the energy they can produce, as well as available root space. If it helps they are growing in 15 gallon fabric pots.

No such thing as to many tops (IMO). However, I stop topping a couple weeks before they enter flowering transition so they can form colas.
I also clear out as much sucker branches as I can. This helps with air circulation (mold), trimming time/bud size.

Thanks for the reassurance. I was also thinking about thinning out some of the inner branches, for the reasons you stated.

Depends on how crowded your space is if indoor. If youre outdoor i would agree with no such thing as too many tops.

yeah i also agree lollipop them and you wont have to worry to much about popcorn budsat the bottom and middle it can focus its bud growth to the colas

would love to see pics of these beasts

You're going to have to use your imagination, since you can only see one side in the pics. I was going to take a panorama but it was hard enough just walking into the swamp. As is I lost a boot in the muck and watched it fill with water...:wall:

Plants are about 5-6 ft tall and starting the flowering stretch.

Thanks :-D

I'm sure I'm just thinking up problems that aren't even there, like usual. Lol

We all do that, over thinking something. In my very humble opinion, over thinking, examining all possibilities is a sign of creativity cause our minds come up with some crazy $hit.
Relax....I may be new to growing MJ, I do know what healthy plants look like and yours are looking good.
Did you put your wet, soggy boot back on?

Those are going to be some really big plants when they're done. I hope you have help for all that trimming at end of season because you're going to have a lot of buds. Very nice grow my friend!:bigjoint:

Thanks for the compliments everybody.

This is my 3rd year at it and I have to say its been my best so far. Just hoping everything goes smooth for the remainder of the season.

@S'Manta

Haha.. Yes the boot went back on, half filled with muddy water. But hey, it's all part of being a guerrilla grower :leaf:

(That moment when you start actually thinking about all the trimming...) haha

I'm very lucky to have a brother who's always there to lend a hand. He's got his own thing going so its a "one hand washes the other" kind of thing.
