They look good but if u used a hps to flower them plants a little cooltube hps would yielded alot more
You might be right but the difference would be insignificant.I'm not gonna throw numbers out...my past posts prove cfls worthiness in cannabis growing.I'm not gonna argue hid yields more but quality is the same and in small spaces with the right grower cfls can keep up with the big boys;)

Well you can see he is the type of person who is on the MH/HID kick so you won't be changing his mind anytime soon. I find it funny how you have given him shots of what cfl can do and I merely state the way I do things but... OH NO its wrong!!! your doing it wrong... bad you.. if your not doing it my way then your a noob.

Pretty sad, my boss didn't even believe the buds I brought in came from LED's I had to inform him and his jaw dropped to the floor.

Show us some of your led buds? They will never be as tight as hps buds or as big this is common knowledge I didnt call anyone a noob I actualy said they looked good for cfls
But hey when u grow ur shit buds under a 200w led u can say I saved power where us hps growers dont need worry bout power cause u get bigger yields and that lets us afford more power u reakon a led same wattage can produce as much as a hps is this what ur saying or r u saying ur a tight ass when it comes to power lol

First Thank you all for responding, secondly skunkd02 is correct, i am just getting my feet wet with indoor growing...i have some beauties outside and i wanted to give cfl's a crack....i know cfl's are frowned upon but this is the way im choosing to start...i also have a VERY rookie question...are there special fixtures for MH bulbs are do they have screw in connections like cfl bulbs? Also B166ER420 that looks perfect!!! Im not trying for a lb out of my closet, thats what my babies outside are for!!! How did that brickweed bud smell like after cured??? How many watts did u use for vegging?
Lol..some people..what can I say, some tried cfls and weren't successful with them.Cfls are only frowned upon by those that have had bad grows with them.To answer your questions....

Hid lights use a mogul socket and need a ballast and in most cases require exhaust fans and ducting....
...Lol...Far from perfect but thank you.Your not trying for a pound??..I AM;)

It was awhile ago,I don't remember the smell:eyesmoke:
I wish I could say that particular brickweed bud(I'm in Texas and a half ounce is $30)was good but it wasn't.I can grow out 5 females and they'd all be different, some fire, some bunk.

I usually veg with only 5-23w cfls,3-5000k and 2-2700k...and i've never vegged longer than 8wks

U may right but ill still allway have air movement in my grow room
i agree mate with the constant air movement but not too much aimed directly at plants
i think it does more harm than good and its not natural either, if you look at plants outside
the foliage hardly moves unless it is very windy
i like to use powerful extractor to cause lots of air flow around the plants constantly pulling fresh air around them,
floor type fans can blow the cooler air at ground level just above the plants as co2 will fall over the plants from the air stream
this way they get lots of fresh air and do not need to flap around too much which damages the leaves

maybe go straight to led or cmh rather than hps ?
i see no real reason these days for folk to be thinking they have to grow with hps
leds have improved vastly over the last few years and also ceramic metal halide and induction lights
unless its a cost issue with equipment there are more choices today hps is not the only option

Well hps was just my choice by default because ive heard many success stories. I really would prefer led because of the affordable energy consumption or anything else that will grow big dense buds and not destroy my pocket with massive light bills or over heat my closet making me spend extra on a expensive ventilation system.

Are you a good a diy'er?....if so I built both of my 12 bulb cfl fixtures for about $100. ....with the bulbs.

(1)12"x12' roll of roof flashing=$12
12 E27 sockets and 12 splitters=$45
1 roll aluminum tape=$6
(2)6" to 4"=$6
1 sheet of 1/2" solarboard=$5
2 ratchet hangers=$20
All the other little stuff I already had, high temp sealant, screws, nuts and bolts, speaker wire....
(solarboard is a piece of plywood with a reflective coating already on one side:)).
Remember with a good growing environment yield, dense buds,potency,smell....it's mostly strain dependant. Not what lights you use!
Good luck Hiram!

Can you produce 1 lb with 200 watts? I think not, technology has improved in the past 3 years and your knowledge hasn't. That is just the way the cookie crumbles. Not gonna argue with someone who wants to be "ignorant". You can be naive and that gives you a free pass but you passed that point and have passed into ignorance.

I have produced buds the size of my leg with LED's it is strain specific not light specific.

The spectrum of light coming from my specific LED's are made for a high plant absorbancy. HPS used to be the best way to grow but now that we aren't using lightbrights to grow anymore your whole arguement is invalid.

As for a request to see my buds, I will look to see if I took any pictures of the last two grows and get you something. I don't make it a priority to take pictures of my plants because the more evidence the more you can be burned.

Excellent stuff mate, don't let the bullshitters tell you any different, especially the ones that are uploading inferior pictures of their own grows:bigjoint:.
Lets see how they get on with CFL's in a dixy cup eh? lol
I use CFL's for veg only, purely for heat reasons(as I don't like sleeping when HPS's are on lol).

It is the heat that gets you, and the ladies! No one likes to chill in a hot house and that is my main reason for trying new methods.

[Edit: I only have pictures of my HPS grow from 1 1/2 years ago, give me two weeks for some finished pictures of Chernobyl under LED's ]

dont be too hard on the dude, its a case of information filters down i guess
there are 1000s of growers on RIU and various other sites that think like this, a few years ago they were right and led was pretty shit
if folk do some more digging and look around, you do not have to go very far either you will see how much led has improved
and how its is now comparable with hps or can even out yield in some cases
the only downside i can see is initial cost of equipment and perhaps durability
i have some15 year old hps ballasts that still work fine with bulbs being so cheap
hps will always attract growers i think for many years to come until leds are cheap and long term durable

RIU has a very good led section with some of the best info and led growers i have seen out of the many sites out there
personally i have never used led, and i have only used cfl for mothers/cuttings
i have been growing with hps for 20 years, i do not have any problems
one day i will try these other lights just out of curiosity

peace

You are right, that was a little hostile. Not how I originally envisioned it.

You make a point that bulbs are cheap, the ones in my area cost $100 a bulb and a lot of growers scrap their HPS after 6 months of use.

I have a 3 year warranty on the LED's, no bulb changes, guarantees 50,000 hours (reputable American company) the only thing is you should windex it and spray out the vents with some fresh air. I will be around these parts for a while so I will let people know if yields start to diminish or if they burn out.

[Edit: I have sent one back for repair because a whole strip of reds burned out, it was a driver issue not an led issue and was promptly fixed and shipped back. Took 1 week but I timed it right to have the harvest at the same time as sending it back. They paid shipping both ways, I just bought a box]

its a shame some growers think bulbs need to be replaced every 6 months each to their own
i would use each bulb for about 2 years or so without noticing any yield loss
or around 10 harvests , they cost between £20 and £40 here for 400 or 600w hps
normally philips or osram
i would spend more money on nutes and rockwool than bulbs
so i consider hps growing very cheap , but as you point out it does differ area to area
a few years back hps bulbs were twice the price and MH are still quite expensive here

i like the look of the cob lights at the moment
and they can be built easy for a reasonable price
the all white area51 looks nice these do not seem too expensive to me
i have been looking at the hans panels too for some little tiny experiment grows
ill get there in the end lol old habits are hard to break

That is the economical way to go, there is no reason to fill up the landfills any faster than we have to. I used the same HPS for about 2 years as well and things went fine for me. I think there is too much wives tales going on in the cannabis community and people latch on to beliefs until they are proven ineffective. Hard to prove the 6 month bulb thing ineffective for me as I don't use them anymore. I been trying to tell my boss to stop wasting money. He spends 800 eveery 6 months on bulbs :-\

looking at the specs of the bulbs most of the bulbs will lose about 7-15% in the 2 year 10 harvest time frame
at 9 weeks 12/12 per crop

if we take an average of around 10% a 600w hps will still be chucking out something around 85k lumen each
a loss of around 9k lumen or so after 2 years
i am running at least 3 lights at once so this loss would be about 30k lumens across all the lights
which is like losing a 250w hps so i consider it worth replacing at this time as it could slightly impact yield

although i am using a little more light to start with than is needed i could most likely cover my space with 3x400
or 2x600 and a 400 , i think this is common with many hps growers they are using more light than they need anyway cos lights are cheap
so when bulbs lose a little bit of lumen output they shouldn't notice a yield loss as plenty of light remains

positive cfl advice

back to reality lol
these little led on a cfl/house bulb type fitting could be like a mini step up for you to consider
you can prolly buy them at walmart or that other shop

I see those LEDs everytime i go to the hardware store but i overlook them because the wattages are so looow...can i use both cfls and leds simultaneously? Another factor for me is that i own so many lamp housings and clamps already..i work in a shop that constantly throws away old lamp/reflector/clamps weekly
