Espoma tomato-tone

I usually use the plant tone haven't tried tomato tone I expect it to be kick ass as are all the products. I use it to make a supersoil type mixture and then water only throughout the cycle, when flowering starts I just put about a tablespoon more per plant and add banana peels and my plants are healthy and maintenance free

I always look at the ingredient list:

Derived from: Hydrolyzed Feather Meal, Pasteurized Poultry Manure, Bone Meal, Alfalfa Meal, Greensand, Humates, Sulfate of Potash, and Gypsum.

Most of this stuff I either wouldn't put into my soil (hydrolyzed feather meal, bone meal), or I already use it in some form (alfalfa meal, gypsum), Or I haven't see a need for it (greensand, humates - probably leonardite, sulfate of potash).

I don't want to sound like I'm bashing the product, I know people who use it successfully. I just want people to realize if you get a few of the basic ingredients the rest of the products are not necessary. Do the reading, don't buy into all of the marketing.

Peace!

This was my 1st go at it and it cut costs and time for me. I used it to top dress on my veg'ing plants and they seem happy. I think my original soil started to wear off and this is the 1st time that I didnt use a bottle fert.

Could you explain a little more? Feather/bone meal, do you leave them out for because they come from slaughter houses or do you have a substitute? I can understand leaving out the last part you listed.
Recently, I found out how humans destroy bat caves to mine bat guano! I may have bought my 1st and last bag of it... Greed=Evil

when I first started making the world a greener I invested into a ton of expensive ferts. I wont name them but they are all popular widely used nutes. Not to bash them because they worked great, but I think a lot of this grow show is gimmick and a lot of products are designed to appeal to growers. It wasn't until I read subcools supersoil recipe that I started using espoma products. Heres how I use them to make my own supersoil. All from lowes or home depot. I start with a quality organic soil, add water crystals, and espoma in generous quantities and that's it! About a half cup her 3 gallon pot a full cup for 5 gallons. Im very busy so I don't have time to mix nutes weekly and check ppm and whatnot. In this way I can just water the plants and they thrive with this method better than they have with any liquid nute. It wont burn either and if the plants need something, they tell you its simple and productive. I cant understand why people try to make growing rocket science because its not. When its time to flower I just work a table spoon of the biotone into the top layer and add a banana peel and that's it. Happiest plants ive ever grown in 5 years simple and affordable

hey killa, do you let that mix cook at all for any amount of time before using it or nada?
i've been using the epsoma stuff, i have the blood and bone meals, and the i think it's plant tone one as well.. i mixed it in with some old, used soil i had laying around with some worm castings i had as well, and put my bubba kush plant in the mix, and it's been the best growing, least problematic plant of this entire grow hands down.. really has me thinking about giving tlo a go, but idk about having to cook a shit ton of dirt, especially once winter hits, seems like it'd be a real pita.

you don't have to let shit cook! the numbers are pretty low to begin with, its the microbes and beneficials that make this low number easily available to the plants is why they thrive so much. I mix it and transplant straight on in no cook no wait. Just as a precaution though, I always make sure my clones or seedlings are good and strong before I put them in. It took only one grow and im sold bro everything I grow is getting this treatment. Its just hassle free, easy and rewarding good growing, that sounds like one hell of a soil mix. I recycle soil too! The same way you are . I throw some castings and biotone in there wet it and its good to go.

nice, i most of the time i read people saying recycling soil is a big no no, but the way i looked at it, i was pretty much putting all of the good stuff back into the soil with all of the epsoma stuff, and worm castings can never be a bad thing imo, so i said, wtf, and went for it, and damn, i've been super happy with the results thus far..

Mustang know this, you have no idea where those birds came from, what they ate, were injected with, etc. Now it depends how deep you want to think about your organics (think them are organic cow bones?). My point is this, if you don't have to buy products, don't. I realize sometimes there are necessities because of restraints. However, if you truly use the soil food web and build a good soil for your plants, you will not need those NPK fertilizers. I don't even look at those numbers. The hydrostore cannabis myth is strong.

This plant was in a 1.5 gallon container. It was transplanted into a pot from a plant a cut down a couple weeks before. I made a little hole small enough to put the root mass and soil of the plant in, added my mycorhizae, stuck the plant in, added a little leaf mulch and watered in. That was a couple of weeks ago. I flipped the lights last night. In a couple of weeks I'll pull back the mulch, add a kelp, crab, neem tropdress, some botanicals, ewc, recover the mulch, water in with compost tea or seed sprout tea.

That's all I do! Not very expensive, or flashy, no marketing hype. Plain and simple.

I think you would like tlo if you give it a chance. plants seem healthier and more vigorous. as long as you dont add any synthetics to it i would think you would be fine. composted cow manure was always my go to and sometimes i get magic mushrooms growing out of my smartpots

I would like to get to that point, you know, where I have an idea of what I am doing rather than follow a recipes and asking you guys. Thanks by the way!

For some reason people seem to forget that soil is only a medium for support. I had to learn this the hard way. My first year of growing was all hydro, which was a huge headache, but the knowledge I got from screwing up in hydro for more than a year helped my growing skills immensely! Now when I look back it, it was stupid but I would do it again the same way. In organics, which is what you are doing when you use biotone- plant-tone or any of the other espoma "tones" you are creating a micro environment in the soil. This is where the magic happens. Its totally fine to recycle soil as long as you replenish whats been diminished! When I reuse the soil if I still see any remnants of biotone I just don't put any back. I just add a little castings and make a go at it again. People think for some reason that you have to spend thousands of dollars in nutes and soil, meters and gauges to have a world class grow and that is just not true! If your a good soccer player, you can score a goal if the ball is brand new and full of air, but you should still be able to score the same goal with and old, used, half inflated ball. Feel me?

Espoma makes great ferts. They include bennie's too. The tomato tone is good but I like to use garden tone if your growing outdoors.
What kind of mix do you make for outdoors? I was thinking of using the garden tone I my mix but wasn't sure how much to put in......

I wanted a "maintanence free" mix as I will only be able to get to the plants maybe every two weeks or so....

Was going to mix the garden tone with:

Half a bale of Pro-mix HP and worm castings that i had laying around.....

Then I was going to add soil moist, vermiculite, lime, and maybe a couple bags of coco loco, ffof, or rooots organic or something like that.....

Thoughts ?
