So I have noticed that the plants that sit directly under my 1000 watt HPS lights fade to yellow at the tops after a few days of being in the same place. I have seen light bleaching before but my plants don't look the way that typical light bleaching looks. If I have a huge bush plant directly under the light, only the section that has been getting direct light starts to fade while the section of the plant that is under less intense light stays nice and healthy green. Half of the canopy fades while the other half looks perfect. This leads me to believe the problem is because of light that is too intense. All of the plants that are at least 18-24 inches away from the bulbs stay beautifully healthy but any foliage that comes within 10-14 inches of the lights fades.
Has anybody else had this problem before? What would a good solution be? Should I just make sure to rotate my plants every day? Would increasing the PPM of my base nutrients (Heavy 16) fix the problem? I have my lights mounted at the ceiling as high as I can get them. Perhaps I should just make sure the taller ladies stay towards the sides of the room away from such intense direct light and keep the shorter plants directly under the lights?
