Using one driver and a predrilled heatsink can take some of the steps out of assembly.

Could use a 200w driver and run two instead of just one like I did. Should be lots of power for one area.

I kinda like the bigger heatsink approach. Just so you can have some passive cooling capacity in the rare case of a fan mishap.

I haven't, but it looks like the only way to get the top end 3590's...

edit: the reason i posted that is because this thread is extremely potent, and addresses almost exactly what i was leaning toward. I would love to get ahold of a pair of those top bin 3000k 3590's, but i doubt they'll be available in singles for reasonable prices anytime soon. Group buy is probably the only way to go, and that's if they're even available at all, which they may not be.

They really are amazing because they have so much surface area and they use high quality fans very efficiently.

I have run CXA3070s on those coolers dissipating 90W and it was barely warm to the touch, very impressive. I also use them for 5000K CXA3590s that are vegging, but they are only running at 20W so I have the fan barely spinning (5V)

Yessr I was running the fan at about 12V. I tested it for @HolyGhost23 he likes his CXA3070s running hard (2.2A). When I would click the fan off the heat would build very fast but when I clicked it back on it brought the temp back under control in less than a minute.

You make a good point about the downside of CPU coolers though. If the fan fails the COB is toast whereas with a bigger heatsink it might be able to hang in there for awhile via passive cooling

I talked to some guy from their support team and he told me that was a dimmable power supply that will power that LED a little stronger than the other one.

Groupbuy would be cool for the people still looking. I'm thoroughly tapped..hehe.

Nothing touches the ab bin 3070 if I remember right. Not sure the 300k color difference is worth the loss in l/w

Actually kinda pisses me off that you can't buy the best bins direct. Almost enough to say screw buying leds till they sort this out. People are playing stock market with led chips...

Yes they are both dimmable, 1050mA and 1400mA. The A version has an internal dimmer from 50-100%. The B version requires an external dimmer which may be good for your application or may be a nuisance to you. The B version can be dimmed much lower.

The problem with the 1400mA version is, it cannot run a pair of CXA3590s any higher than about .7A because the vF range is just a bit too low. So you would need 4 drivers in order to go that route.

The 1050mA version can actually put out 1150mA and it can run a pair of 3590s so that seemed like a better option.

So if you go with the 1050 version you only need 2 drivers and you can run at 1150mA. If you get the 1400 version you would need 4 drivers and you could run at 1500mA+ Unfortunately the CXA3590 drops below 30% efficiency if you run it that hard which may get into the false economy territory.

One thing to be careful if thinking predrilled heatsink with cobs.

I used one from here...

I'm not sure if they are all predrilled the same.

Worst case scenario you have to tap/self tapping screw one hole instead of two...:mrgreen:
