Afghan Kush Ryder - WTF lets SEED ONE

I would say all the seeds I've grown from that seed run act like clones. They are very similar. In other words, I have not had a 5 footer one grow, then a 2 footer in another grow. Growing patterns and bud formation are also the same.

FYI - They all continue to be fem.
hey bro i havent forgot about you
i moved in a new place today and have some killer genetics im going to run and a few crosses in the works ;)

Yea four months is a long time but hey in the end you do end up with more than enough good seeds. Just a jar eh? Good stuff. I'm thinking of getiing some AKR after reading through this thread.

I didn't really do much. It was approximately 4 months from the time I planted the seed to harvesting the seeds. Yes, 4 months is way too long IMO, but this was a side experiment and just wanted to give them plenty of time to dry. At 4 months, I picked the seeds out and just let them sit in an open jar for a week or two.

The seeds are currently in a couple pill bottles with a few of these stuffed in there to keep moisture out.

Great thread. Thanks for taking the time to share all of this good info with all of us. Appreciate the service.

A question if I may. The seeds that came from the plant that was pollinated with its own pollen ( S-1), were those plants pretty close to identical to each other and to original plant,"mother"? If so would you say that they were almost like clones? If they were not alike, how much do they vary?

Thanks in advance for any and all answers.

Polo

They aren't clones because it is like fertilizing it with a sibling that happened to have the same genes (next to impossible odds). The genes can recombine and different ones can show including some recessives. It's kind of like two identical twins. It just depends on how many generations they were bred through towards stabilization (which is around f7). The farther downthe line they are when they are sold the less genetic variety in the selfed offspring.

Thought I would share this. Here ya go. It makes sense I suppose. No I didn't buy any seeds from this place.

What happens if one uses pre-germination methods?

Soaking seeds in water/wet paper towels is a method which can be used for old seeds (3+ years) that are drying up and losing germination power; and for pure land race equatorial strains such as from Africa. Both factors do not apply to our seeds. Fresh seeds have a healthy embryo whose cells are filled with water. But excess water causes the cells to bloat, depletes oxygen and leads to the tissue rotting away before the seed embryo can germinate. Old seeds have lost water in the cell tissue, the embryo starts to shrivel, which is why germination rates drop the older the seeds are. Therefore, old seeds (ie. 3+ years) can soak up more water before adverse conditions cause them to rot. This is one of the main reasons why various seed stock reacts differently to pre-germination methods. Some growers make the mistake of soaking our seeds in water for up to 1-2 days because it may have worked in the past with other seeds. This does not mean, however, that this method can be used for all seeds. In fact, old stock or equatorial cannabis seeds should only be soaked in water for a few hours at the most. Always consult the web site of a seed bank for specific advice and instructions on how to germinate their seeds.

AKR - Transplanted on 7/16 from dirt. The boat pic is today 13 days later. I'm sure it got a little shocked when I shook the dirt off the roots and washed it in water. I did a little trimming at the bottom. Been feeding about every 3 days. If anyone cares I'm feeding at the week 4 schedule. It seems to be doing well.

Two days ago temp in the big box got to 107 with 7%hum.

Note to self. Next time transplant earlier and maybe start in a mini hempy with finer/crushed up perlite for a softer transplant.

Couple AKRs germed in a paper towel and put in pucks yesterday. I made some mini hempys. I'll probably let this go for a week or so then transplant into 2.5 gallon hempys.

Yes I know - this has nothing to do with making seeds. :bigjoint:
