Your Thoughts on Winter Growing in Shed

This year I wanted to grow outdoors in the shed. What are y'all thoughts on this? Normally I grow indoors in the winter and just raise the window to keep the room with the grow tent in it nice and cold. Shed is big enough to fit about 4 riding lawn mowers. I was going to put a 4x4x6.5 tent in there jam with max number of ladies I can put in it and either a 1000w or two 600w either way it will be cold enough to control temps. In the winter We get temps that range 15-40 during the day and as low as 10 on some nights. What do you guys think I Need suggestions?

sounds perfect mate, just be wary of critters getting in, plenty of bug screens will help.

Is there something I could buy that will shut my heater that will be in the tent off when temps get a certain level and cut it back on when temps are to low. Thats the only problem I am seeing which is ladies getting to cold when lights are off. Then again when I think about it the light from the heater cutting on will Hermie the ladies.

just get a thermostatic or frost heater mate, with a thermostat on it, they don't give off any light as they're inside a metal case, green house ones are good.

and don't put it in the tent, leave it outside in the shed area to heat up the ambient temperature, keep in mind the tent might get hotter inside then the ambient temp outside tho

it's called a thermostat.

a little LED on the heater will not cause plants to herm. that's a myth.

I hope You have alot of insulation,I recently moved and I'm having to rebuild but in Tx we get down to 30 maybe a few weeks out of the year.It's this heat I'm having to get them through til I get enough insulation.only 95 today but a hot mf in my new Shop...So I have a house full of genetic's I keep taking cutting's off of.Taking all of the mom's outside and letting them flower out.I feel strange not having anything in flower.It's costing me money to smoke and I don't like that shit either.

I was going to have my carbon filter/fan outside of the tent with ducting running inside of the tent hooked up to Air cool hood sucking air out. I do this so I have more room in the tent and plus I don't like hanging carbon filter up top. Just always felt like it was to much weight on the support.

But arnt most filters designed to have the air sucked through them? to scrub the air before it leaves the tent? or are they're filters you can push air through now?

Make sure the shed is very well insulated or the heater will run constant. I lived in NY and it got pretty cold in the winter, pretty much the same climate your talking about, and space heaters can raise the electric bill quite a bit . I think heaters wattage starts at about 1500 watts, so besure if your rrunning a thousand Watt hps and the heater on the same circuit that that circuit can handle all the power . I've had problems where my heater would kick on and pop the breaker and shut off the light, which sucked

I lived in NY and it got pretty cold in the winter, pretty much the same climate your talking about, and space heaters can raise the electric bill quite a bit . I think heaters wattage starts at about 1500 watts, so besure if your rrunning a thousand Watt hps and the heater on the same circuit that that circuit can handle all the power . I've had problems where my heater would kick on and pop the breaker and shut off the light, which sucked

Thanks for the heads up. I really never thought about that. It can hold some heat if the shed door and windows are closed with no problems at leasts i think. At the same time I was thinking I could get by with just heating the inside of tent and not the shed. I was thinking this because I thought about what you said far as heater running non stop. With my filter sucking the hot air from the bulb in the winter with a 1000w my temps are 70 degrees with window up half way so I know in a shed it will be much colder and temps will be much less.

you can get lower wattage frost heaters nowadays, as low as 200W, the tube heaters are even lower.

I've only experienced that kind of cold in the Bering Sea,Tx has a humid cold that suck's the fuckin life out of everything...I bet dry cold is more bearable....

I used to live on the NY PA border, well about 45 minutes from the PA border, last year we had some. 20 below days, a few 3 foot snow storms. It was a bad NY winter last year for sure, PA is a little more mild in the winter though, I have family near Harrisburg, nice state to visit, loved Gettysburg, you should check it out if you haven't been

Huh smell won't be a problem because of Carbon Filter. It will be a grow tent inside of a shed.

If you have the shed well insulated, the snow on the roof shouldn't melt off. The insulation will keep heat in and the cold out. Depending on how close the neighbors are, carbon filter is optional, that's up to you and if smell is a problem because of how close neighbors are. Here's what I would do, it sounds like your shed is pretty well built. I would get a space heater that has a thermostat built in it. I got one for around 75 bucks I think. You can set it for 60-80 degrees and it only runs to maintain the temp you set it at. Put that outside the tent in the shed. Leave Windows closed. Have the heater set next to the tent and have a small booster fan in one of the bottom air ducts on the tent. Carbon Filter inside the tent like this.

Filter>light>duct out of tent into shed. This will scrub the air and put the heat from the light into the shed making a nice ambient temp in the shed while lights on. The thermostat space heater will keep plants warm when lights off by using the small booster fan blowing the heater heat into the tent

Also, make sure neighbors don't see a bright light shining out the shed window. If smell is an issue, that means you have close by neighbors, so black out the shed Windows so when you open the tent the light can't be seen

You have just put some ideas in my head. But with all this I got to thinking about it and will my shed stick out like a sore thumb far as heat signals?
