dry soil testing before watering?

Does this soil look dry enough I last watered 2 days ago I watered 20% of a gallon

Stick your finger in it. If its still damp, wait another day. When the top couple inches of soil are dry - feed/water.
 
3-4 inches. When you let the soil dry out between waterings - it promotes root growth.
i do the soil dry test prob for the first 3 weeks wile they are still vegging and small but once they hit flower i hit them every 3 days with nutes

theres nothing but root mass in them pots with that soil so they can handle alot more
 
This baby saved me a lot of questioning and worry, for $10 goes 12" deep. I can really let the roots look for moisture between waterings. (I like to let it get dry all the way through for a min.):) hope this helps , happy growing. 20140730_050343.jpg
