clonex question

I've used clonex for years, as well as olivia's at one point, and one other brand I can't remember. They all worked well as long as I kept the environment right for my clones. The last 3 batchs of clones I have only used raw aloe like grease monkey suggests. I payed about 3 dollars at the grocery store for an aloe plant. Each time I need to clone (about every 2-3 weeks) I just cut off part of an aloe "spine". I take my cutting and prep the end, then insert the cutting right into the spine and swirl it around then put it right into peat pellets. The first round of clones I forgot to water one day and lost a couple, but that was my fault not the aloe. The last 2 rounds have been perfect so far.

This is exactly what I do as well, small difference as I use rockwool, I like to fill the bottom of my cloning tray with coarse coconut hair, so the rockwool cubes do not hang out in water, also with the coconut hair it allows you to add water to the bottom of the tray to increase humidity when used in conjunction with a heating mat, and hood, also kinda protects the cuttings from any over-heating the mats do. I don't spray much, because the mat evaporates the water and makes the whole thing "misty", I do have a fan blowing in the room for circulation but not blowing directly on the hood. I've been cloning for nearly 20 yrs, and this is my most effective way.

That's great advice I know what your saying about the heat mats. mine gets hot. hotter on one side than the other so i use a towel as a buffer between my clone tray and the mat.Im going to try the aloe for sure. as far as clonex goes I might as well just set fire to a twenty dollar bill. I wont be buying jars of it anymore.

I tried the aloe on three different types of philodendrons before trying it with cannabis, I typically root those simply by putting them in water and allowing the rhizome to grow a root, always works.
But recently I tried aloe, and they rooted twice as fast, all I did was smear the crushed aloe on the rhizome.
So from there I naturally tried it on some cuttings and it worked well.
Like I said, I discovered that here on this site, so I can't take credit for it.
I've been tryin to clone this French lavender plant that I have, and I keep failing, but haven't tried aloe yet. Course I should just go look it up to see if you CAN clone a French lavender to begin with.

Bob, Wow man! You must have some killer tap water. I have a well and can't pop a single little tap-root with clonex mixed in and clonex gel on the cut!

My tap water is very very metallic and salty-ish too! So, I have to, at the minimum, use store-bought spring water for them to even start to grow! Plus, I've never gotten massive roots like yours! I usually plant mine when they look like the smaller pic(not even sometimes).

I am using a 8-hole bucket cloner too...

My tap is in the 500's

For me, I have found that rooting hormones don't work well in aero.
I think the key is, healthy mom & sterile tools & enviro.....
& Patience.....(still working on this)

So I looked yesterday. I have everything to set up an aero cloner but a container. So I think I'm actually gonna get a bucket later this weekend and start putting this together. I wanna see if I can find a good square 5 gallon. I have a plan to build it into my current clone table so it all sits flush and doesn't take up any more space . I'll keep ya posted.

get a lid that has a good seal on it or it will leak and black buckets seem to work the best.

so I took clones with the melted clonex and some $3 powder about 20 in all. Ill let you guys know how the melted clonex works. I also picked up some root tech samples and an aloe plant. I'll take more cuts before fall hits and let you know how they work. Ill save the willow bark and honey for the winter indoor grow. I do like airocloners I made one a couple years ago but got drunk and fell on it and it broke the sprinkler heads and pvc pipe I used a rubbermaid tote with a rain skirt inside to keep it from leaking but now its toast. I think the black bucket works best but I can only clone six at a time. I like the domes and heat mat because I can sprout seeds and do all my veggies in it as well.

I ended up with a heavy white bucket since thats all they had with lids. The lid looks like it should seal well, it has a rubber ring. I'm gonna cover the top of it with panda film to increase the light reflection. I didn't start putting it together yet, I forgot to buy a whole saw to cut the lid with for the plugs.

Hey bro, My Clonex did the same thing, I have just Recently used it "It wasnt thick and gooey " But it Did work! I do have results if that helps, I need to get fresh stuff, While i was at bunnings last to get more clonex i ended up coming home with a tub of Seasol cloning gel, you literally mix it with soil for transplant, it works too but i thought it was a liquid gel not a patrillium looking gel, also smells abit but works great

use the black side out so it absorbs more heat its good to have a thermometer also.

Why in the world would I want it to absorb heat. The pump is already going to put off some heat while it runs. I havn't used a hydro cloner, but I've been running hydro for 5 years now, and the general rule is to always keep the res cool so bad things don't grow.

I suppose too cold would could be a problem in some cases. My veg room stays a nice temp so I'm expecting the cloner should as well.

I've used rrootech and it does ok. As advertised. I liked rapid start the best for stink bud-like aero cloner. Solo h2o worked just as well starting the roots really.

1/4 strength base nutes with Rapid Start at 2ml/gallon in aero cloner. Works like a charm every time and I never get any yellowing.

I use clonex gel all the time and have always been satisfied with the way it works.recently i purchased a jar and Ive only used it one time and now its totally liquefied. has anyone else had this problem and will it still work? Thanks DP

Yeah, I would throw it out. I was using the same jar of clonex, and it was a few years old, mine was going liquid on me. The only reason is because I observed less success rate then using the olivias cloning gel.

I wanted to give an update. The cheap $3 powder worked some of the melted clonex worked neither had a stellar performance.The clonex has definitely gotten weaker after melting. I have aloe and root tech in the cloner right now they have been in there a few days.
