280W Apollo8 vs. A51 XGS 190

I trimmed them up and placed the in their respective bags for further air drying, and did a quick weigh up when they were in their drying bags. The XGS bag was 16g heavier than the Apollo, so it seems to be ringing in higher, at this point. I'll wait to re-weigh them just before I jar them, but so far, the XGS side is representing better, for this strain.

what about total grams for each plant? What was the height of them before chopping?

I will weigh them before they go into their jars...they're still on the dry cycle. I was just posting a quick weigh up to see if the respective bags weighed differently.

Plants were roughly 2ft tall when chopped.

And remember, folks, this strain is not a commercial strain, so yields will be low, compared to other strains. I run this strain due to its cannabinoid profile (and its high-CBD)...and it smells great!

Obvious weight difference, and it looks like more or less the same amount of bud between the two, would you say density would account for that 20% difference? I found my last run with the low end LG panels budded fine, finished fine, quality was good, but the density (and resulting weight) was just not there. Not comparing the LG's but I'm thinking there's a correlation between bud density and light/spectrum quality.

Thanks, it was more or less similar kind of density...the XGS side was slightly denser, but there just were more flowers and the XGS seems to have penetrated the canopy better than the Apollo, which I think makes up for the difference in overall weight.

I grow good dank with the Apollo...certain strains really thrive under it! I'll keep using it until it dies (hopefully it lasts a long time tho). But I do like the XGS, from the flower development, to its better penetration, to its all-white, which is easier on the eyes, and easier for pictures. It runs quieter than the Apollo, and runs 95W less at the plug, has a larger light footprint than the Apollo since its beam angles are closer to 80.

Every member who comes on here, and accuses us, the LED guru's, of pushing high end LED panels without reason, needs to read this. There really is a difference between generic LED panels and the one's that we recommend.

Kine.. you're my hero. I've been sifting through the forums for a grow exactly like this and like a marijuana jesus you come with salvation.

I just bought a Pro Grow X5-300 and two XGS-190's. I bought the X5-300 about two weeks before the XGS's so I already have it going in one of my two tents. I plan to use the X5-300 as a backup to the two XGS-190s, so I wanted to see how it performs. Its a 5w LED that draws 275w actual. Here's a link to the site. Anyways, the remarkable similarities in the LEDs from your test make me think I should pull the X5-300 and get that second XGS-190 going. I was basically gonna run the same comparison as you, and although I realize the X5-300 isn't the same as the Apollo your results make me think its a waste to not have the other XGS running. The plants only at Day 10.

What height and for how many days did you run the XGS on 100w?

I havent used the XGS in 100w mode yet, as I have a 4 x 54w T5 fixture for vegging, so far. With my upcoming adventures in ebb & flow systems, I may start using both modes on the XGS.

In flowering, the XGS is ~18" from the canopy at the end. I think I started flowering at around 24" above.

I like the XGS, and don't think you'll go wrong with both running side-by-side. I want to get another one, so I can run them sxs also.

I've got the XGS-190 in 100w mode at 24" and my Day 13 seems to be loving it, no issues so far. It will obviously gain some height over the next few days so I'll just try and keep it between 20"-24". Now I just have to decide when to crank it up to full power. Usually I veg at 50% with a 400w HPS then switch it to 75% around Day 25, then when the flowers really start to form around Day 40 I'd go to 100%.. Autoflowers of course. So. I'm thinking Day 25-30 I'll go to 195w at 24" and take things from there.

Hmm...that's interesting. I've read of people getting bleaching when they go within the 18" with the XGS-190. I've got a full grown Dark Devil that's about done and I've got the XGS-190 18" from the top ... and a World of Seed's Northern Lights x Big Bud that's at Day 13 at 24" on 100w like I mentioned earlier ... Both are looking great. It's amazing how very healthy the little lady looks from being under LED compared to 400w HPS. The greens are just so vibrant and full it's something you have to see in person to fully appreciate (especially after using HPS for a year). The white LEDs really seem to accentuate it

Here's the Dark Devil...I swear this baby had EIGHT fan leaves (which had dropped by Day 50). Aside from the bud leaves I've never seen a plant so sparse. I've always had penetration issues with HPS but this lady developed almost evenly from top to bottom. It's only had a week of LED because the switch wasn't really planned I just did it when the LED came in.

I'll start a journal for the NL x BB grow soon and post a link. All the fun happens from Day 15 on...

I didn't experience any bleaching with the XGS the last run, but I didn't have overly stretchy strains going. On the other side, the Apollo bleached the top few flowers of the same strain...it definitely is more prone to bleaching, from what I've seen.

I've been keeping my RW-150's between 7-8" with no I'll effects. They love it.

We'll maybe the distance had something to do with it, but I found a banana Day 42F. It was a Tahoe OG clone from craigslist, I was told it was a cali connection seed (I've heard they can herm). I noticed it on a bottom branch 12" down in the scrog canopy, definitely not a keeper. Vancouver craiglslist special, I need better connections for genetics. Well hopefully it don't seed to much and stops throwing nanners.

The lights are currently about 12" above canopy and I'm pretty much out of head room.

I've got a Jamaican D that's way closer than 18"... No issues at all. Just make sure you have your foot print covered and the lights are high enough to get good PAR values across the space. After that IMO you can just let certain branches get as close as you want. I've yet to see any bleaching at all with any of my strains with either A51 light.

So you're basically saying as long as it's far enough away so that you're getting coverage on the entire width of the plant you're set? What's the best way to tell or know that you're getting the whole plant? Especially with the light being rectangular

Just start at the recommended heights A51 lists. So make sure you have enough light to cover the area and then start flowering with it at the recommended distance. Let them grow up and if you need to adjust to get light around bud that is obstructing others go for it.
