I just discovered that my lights were set at 16/8 instead of 18/6 and my indicas have stretched abnormally. Could a 16/8 light schedule cause it?
height of lamp. hours don't have anything do do with abnormal stretching check plants genetics or simply LST that girl..I just discovered that my lights were set at 16/8 instead of 18/6 and my indicas have stretched abnormally. Could a 16/8 light schedule cause it?
400w MH, 2'x4' tent, light was set about 14" over the top of the plants. 3 Plants mostly indica, Blue Rhino, Bubba Kush and Desert Diesel.need to know your set up and light height and what sort of lamp wattage cooled not cooled you get it
Thank you Sativied. I knew it had to be either Y or N. Thanks for clearing it up! lol
Yes, I have never heard anyone say that they would stretch less when lights were set to 24/0 so 16/8 shouldn't make that much difference. I think my light may have been a little too high. Thanks for the input. You're welcome. Seriously though, Dues has a good point. You mentioned "abnormally" in your first post and just switching running 16/8 won't stretch an indica "abnormally" so you should look for other causes as well (lamp height and genetics). Longer colder-compared-to-day-time nights do cause stem elongation and partly why I veg seedlings on 24/0.
to be honest 400mh is great i bushed my plants with them first time around but yet mine was winter and i had mine set 10 inches above plants.. now if you do a simple t5 you will get this result here I will tell you i am the most unconventional grower on this site. i do things my way with help and guidance from others. in the end i watch daily sometimes hourly for first few weeks the plant will tell you exactly what it needs.. The stretching should have been caught within first 2 days with 400w. I am by no means bashing the way you grow.. simply trying to educate you on what needs to be done... First is the genetics is it TRUE 100% indic a or hybrids like what you see here.. also what i do is at least 25 searches on grows of that certain genetic to see the various stages of growth from one grower to the next.. Yes a lot of work but it pays off in the end.400w MH, 2'x4' tent, light was set about 14" over the top of the plants. 3 Plants mostly indica, Blue Rhino, Bubba Kush and Desert Diesel.
This is the Blue Rhino at 22 days after I topped it for 4 main colas. The plant is around 14" high now. Note the distance between the nodes. Of course the inside part I cut was not stretched quite as bad.

Yes the 400W MH should be ample for my 8 SQ ft of space, that's 50watts per foot. I had the light set too high at first and I never lowered it because the plants appeared too look ok before I wacked out the center. That is when I saw that the lower 4 branches that I kept were almost as tall as the middle. I have lowered the light now and will see what happens.to be honest 400mh is great i bushed my plants with them first time around but yet mine was winter and i had mine set 10 inches above plants.. now if you do a simple t5 you will get this result here I will tell you i am the most unconventional grower on this site. i do things my way with help and guidance from others. in the end i watch daily sometimes hourly for first few weeks the plant will tell you exactly what it needs.. t5 will take a bit longer but I'm telling you it works this coming from a guy who has t5 led cfl plasma mh hps I own at least one of everything and t5 to veg those girls for low cost is amazing pictures speak for themselves don't pay attention to the flowering plant she's just getting a root bath to wash off the funky organics i use.
the last picture is what you can do to a plant if you watch it and take care of it.. this last photo is you see is my bonsai plant in flower now it has taken me months to nurse her back and this is the result of well taken care of plants.. btw i took 21 cuttings off the flowering plant. she's my personal experiment.View attachment 3223474 and if I'm out of line here i apologize. happy growing man were always here to helpView attachment 3223468View attachment 3223470 View attachment 3223472
Looks great in my opinion I'm contemplating throwing one of my girls into 12/12 now simply cuz the 2x2.5 tent i have is full with my girls pk ripper clone.. LOL so i either gotta move her or well i dunno out of space i topped first plant ever the rest i have not i don't know why just forgot i guess and plus i put her in bondage insteadYes the 400W MH should be ample for my 8 SQ ft of space, that's 50watts per foot. This was the same Blue Rhino as the one in my last post at 22 days veg. right before I topped it. It was 14" tall when topped.

Thanks Scarecrow, it helped a lot. The other 2 plants didn't stretch as bad either, 3-4" between nodes, so It is partly genetics in the Blue Rhino that made it stretch so much. There's nothing wrong with your plant ..u should have topped it a bit earlier ..u topped for 4 main colas...so U have 4 dominant branches now in stead of the main one...thats why they streched a bit..4 mains reaching for the light instead of 1..i done the same thing with one of the extrema plants I had..topped it for 2 main colas but I left it a bit late and the same thing happened to me..she ended up streching above the other ones ..with very long distance between the nodes..not like her sisters nice tight nodes on those ones...hope this helps
