I planted it straight into FFOF and added pearlite for drainage. I've never fed it yet cuz it's in organic soil
Organic is a set of principles, not a style of soil.
Feed the microbes in your soil to keep them alive. Feeding them organic matter (fish emulsion) will make the microbes happy, making them poop and then the poop feeds your plant and keeps the ecosystem of your soil happy. Without feeding the soil anything besides water, it will quickly run out of food. Thus when it shows signs of stress on your plant, it is deep into a deficiency.
The purpose of perlite is to increase drainage by allowing water to pass by it and not be caught. The bag of FFOF was intended to be used as is without your perlite added, for it to be used for a complete month of nutrients.
The speed at which your soil dries out is faster now, increasing your water need, in turn creating a leeching action that deprives your soil of new food to chew and washes the nutrients out of the root zone. Without introducing new food for the microbes to work on, your soil will quickly be depleted.
I apologize if this is written weird.
