Haven't read the piece yet. But my friend and I were discussing this last night. In my opinion everything thing else the government has taxed hasn't gone well. Given our unique laws here (ravin) I'm content to be left alone. I know this sounds crazy but seriously we don't have the population base that will support a crazy big MJ industry. Not the growers or all the other support industries that are needed. I just don't see us going all Colorado on it and having stores with specialized ganja, the best extracts, edibles... ect.....
If we lived in a state where LEO even remotely gave a shit about small grows or anything short of hanging a sing out that says I grow tons of dope, I could see the point of legalizing all the way. I guess if I lived in the valley maybe. LEO seems more actively anti grass out there. But you know my hood, I've had several police walk past my window in full flower and my whole block stunk. They just don't care. That wasn't an isolated incident.
I'm not sure about how I'm going to vote. I have more reading to do.
Starting with the article you posted above. I guess I'm a big time smoker that has closet aspirations to quit and live a sober life.

I will vote YES on 1 though. Fuck big oil

#2 is not perfect, but it's closer to what we want than what we have now.
I don't like the taxation thing any more than the next guy, but if that's what I have to do to get to where we need to be I will.

Sux that we have to "pay" to make it legal.
But fuckem - I won't stop doing what I'm doing now no matter what.

I agree, don't get me wrong in a vacuum I would love to see a nice industry of good product at reasonable prices, and sick people getting the correct medicine they need. I'm just not sure 2 is the way to do it best. I don't think the people who profit the most from 2 are going to be "good people"
However I'm not of the mindset that weed is without side effects. I like the idea of real science being conducted on weed, I look forward to more open sharing of knowledge and techniques. Lab testing.

This is why we need 2... fuck the guys who think they are gonna come here and capitalize... lots of folks from outside try and in AK we LOVE AK. I feel like a lot of money will stay here. Theres a lot of folks ready to jump on it and I would hope that the licensing committee would initially only allow local entrepreneurs to get involved. Making it alot more likely for the money to stay here

I'm not a fan of the added government and taxes of prop 2. It was poorly thought out, and adopting a model that frankly won't be all that great in our state.

I will still vote for it, though I only half hartedly support it. The only real benefit I see from it is it will eliminate the "smell" basis for a search warrant.

I mostly agree with Rak, and my yes vote will be a wee bit bittersweet. However I see the added advantage of being able to buy/trade clones and genetics without fear as another important freedom that will come with passage of the new law.

But you guys see this bad polling news 2 days ago? Looks like #s have shifted the wrong way... so make sure your friends get to the polls in Nov and VOTE!

Marijuana Legalization Trailing In Alaska According To Latest Poll

In May, Public Policy Polling released a poll that showed marijuana legalization winning in Alaska 48% to 45%. I remember at the time thinking that the results must have been a bit off, because surely there was more support for the marijuana legalization initiative in Alaska. However, a poll was recently released by Public Policy Polling that found support is even lower, and that the initiative is actually failing 44% to 49%. That’s very disappointing news, especially considering the national backing the initiative has received from the Marijuana Policy Project. There could be multiple reasons for the results of the poll. A couple of them are provided by Fire Dog Lake below:

Two things to bear in mind when looking at these results. The first is that Alaska is a relatively tough place to poll accurately because it is a geographically large and economically diverse state with a relatively small population.

The second is that this new PPP poll found support for legalization among young voters in Alaska to be surprisingly low. It found only 48 percent of voters 18-29 planned to support the initiative at this time. By comparison Gallup found nationally 67 percent of young people think marijuana should be legal and Pew Research polling put support among this age group at 70 percent. It is possible young people in Alaska are dramatically more conservative the young people as a whole on this issue, or maybe the difficulty polling this group in Alaska is skewing the results there somewhat.

Whatever the reason, I hope that efforts ramp up in Alaska to get the initiative passed. Oregon and Washington D.C. are ahead in the polls, and I’m hopeful that we see all three efforts win, in addition to medical marijuana in Florida. It would be a shame to see Alaska get approved for the ballot, yet not see victory on Election Day, which is what happened in California in 2010 and in Oregon in 2012.
