question about SCRoGging

Hello fellow growers! I have been doing Sea of Green (SoG) and have took interest in SCRoGging. I have a 4'x2' tent and a 400w hps. I was wondering if it would be possible to do 4 plants in my tent with a 3'x2' screen under my hps, using a shorter veg time to fill in the screen with four? I figure based on what ive read they need 1sq ft to fill in per plant so 3 would run better... now would it be better, if I cant run 4 and it have a good yield, to do 3 under a solid screen, OR do 3 plants with 1'x2' screens built sp ecially for each plant and pot themselves? Thanks in advance for any and all answers/criticism and as always happy growing riu!

do 2 plants side by side or a tri-angle with 3 + a big screen with 1''x 1'' or 2''x 2'' sized holes. Worked well for me, check it

Day 37 veg

Day 45 veg, flipped to flower at this point in the screen.

Day 13 flowering

Day 35 flowering

Then they hermi'd LOL, LSD barney's farm, both had balls by day 35. Live and learn.

Now, correct me if im wrong, couldnt you do like a SoG persay and use more plants to cut that veg time in half to fill up the screen the same amount and yield the same just having more plants? Just curious as im not familiar with the grow style.

Technically yes but i wouldn't do that unless I had clones to work with. Throwing a shit load of beans down wouldn't be a good idea. I also believe you would yield less compared to 2 or 3 mature monster plants.

I just harvested an 8 plant scrog from a 4x4 tent under a 600w hps. I had cloned 20 odd cuttings from the last run and picked 8 that had responded well to lst.
I got 10.5 oz compared to 8.5 on the first 6 plant attempt. not amazing yields really.
To be honest, the first run was my first indoor attempt, and the second was a bit of a screw up due to overfeeding and it being reall difficult to flush the soil once the screen is full. I'd advise having your pots raised at least a few inches from the floor, or otherwise plan for needing to flush.
Anyway, back to your question...
yes more plants will work, but probably 4 in my 4x4 space would have been plenty. If the 8 plant run had gone really well it probably would have been too crowded by far.

Alrighty, so 2 plants itll be... thanks again everyone for the responses now I just have to learn how to scrog correctly before my current harvest is done, so off to do more reading for me lol

Question though, has any1 every seen or done a SCRoG with a screen built to size of just the pot each ? Or would ot be better to just make 1 large screen instwad of trying to limit each plant to only its own small screen ?

I have seen some good tutorials on the net where, when properly done, an individual SCrOG net per pot allows you to combine other advanced techniques (fim, top, mainline, etc.) to spread out the plant to the space you desire (you can make one plant fill a 3x3, or a 1x1 (it's all up to what you want per plant)). Also, it allows for the plants to be moved if the screen is attached sturdily to your bucket/bag.

if plant count is not a problem and you have a mother plant I would grow a sog every time (cuts the veg time down and uses less space)
the only reason anyone would train there plants is to reduce the plant count and pull the same yield

so you could use 4 plants in a 1m2 room under a 600w veg it for a few weeks and train it into the screen and you may pull the same yield

sog..........................................................vs................................... ...scrog

(1) 1-2 weeks in veg................................................................ 6 weeks + in veg

(2) 36 clones or more..............................................................could use 1 plant

(3) can have plants at different stages in flower ............................once in the screen you can't move a plant till you harvest

(4) can remove or treat a plant easy if you get any bugs/ Hermie's................................harvesting a plant in a screen is a pain and takes a long time pain

(5) easy to water and lift a
plant for an even canopy

(6) quick harvest,
each ones a quick trim and chop

I'm running a scrog currently with 3 thunderbuds and just flushed yesterday,,, I was at day 16 of flower.... I just bring my shop vac up to my tent and water them heavily and suck out what ends up in the tray,,, I try and run a gallon or more through the soil, suck it up with the vac and then leave a little water in my tray... Seems to work quite well

so I got more questions, first one: im looking up how to scrog, and most of the in depth how-to's I am finding Call for LST'ing a plant until 1-2 weeks before flowering then adding the screen. Is this the only way to scrog, or can you just put the screen say 8-12" away from the medium and once it reaches the screen train it that way ? And if its done that way does any1 KNow where I can get an in-depth guide. Second one: im gonna veg my scrog in what was my flower cabinet, but I dont wanna untape and un ziptie my exhaust duct work from my cooltube, so I was gonna use my hps for veg and flower, will this work as well ? Or would it be worth the hassle to swap my MH for my HPS?

You don't have to LST, you can just let it grow to the screen and start training. LST before it hits the screen just makes filling the screen easier and quicker, I like LBHs 4 way LST and SCRoG guide personally but there is nothing wrong with doing it the way you described.

About as in depth as I know of that doesn't talk about LST before the plant hits the screen:

Can't answer your question about vegging under HPS, I know people do it but I've only done MH for veg HPS for flower.

I veg under hps and found very tight node spacing and vigorous growth. I believe a lot of comercial growers will use hps throughout as changing multiple bulbs is a hassle and the benefit doesn't outweigh the time/effort.
I topped my plants once for the 1st scrog and then got the screen on as early as possible cos i wanted to start playing in there. I had no trouble filling out the screen.
With the clones i had for the second run i lst'd and to be honest didn't see it was a great advantage over topping and reaching the screen. Essentialy, the screen is doing the lst for you, afterall, the idea is to create an even canopy to destribute auxin amongst all growth tips better. Lower branches will catch up once the screen is in play- quickly.
