Tea Brewing Kit Start-Up: Suggestions On Where to Start

Foam has nothing to do with the effectiveness of your tea.
Actually what foam does is slow the gas exchange of your brew. Therefore, lowering your dissolved oxygen levels. Try adding a little fish hydrol to minimize the foam.

For a 5 gallon brew I would recommend the Eco Plus Comm 1. Those aquarium pumps aren't going to work unless you're going to brew like 2 gallons of tea. Even then it's questionable.

I have a pretty small garden. Flower under 1 400w hps. Usually 6 plants, or a 1-3 plant scrog...keepin it legal in my state. I brew 1g of tea and cut it with 1g water before using. For my needs its enough. What i do, that has been working great for me is this: i have a tall skinny 1g plastic decanter that i got at the dollar store. Is cylindrical and probably 6inches in diameter and 16inches tall. In this, i use a 50g rated aquarium pump. I think the container for me is key. Before, brewing bigger teas in a 5g bucket, i noticed that there would be dead spots where all my ingredients would muck up and go anarobic. You know, that dirty fish tank smell. Now i get nothing but sweet, foamy, aerobic tea. The skinny diameter of my container not only eliminates dead spots where stuff can settle, it also makes my water much deeper, so the bubbles travel further to get to the top of the water, so i get maximum aeration/water contact time...whatever, out of each bubble. I never have any stuff settling at the bottom, and i get good teas and good results. I have no need for anything more than i have now.

Compost tea is easy even if you must spend money, go to your local Asian store and buy some shusee seaweed, chop it fine and add to your drink bottle water allow to sit for ....as long as you want...sniff each week to see if ready, when it stinks ...its a ready ...easy too
Shushee Seaweed? What is this, is it like kelp or ? And unlike kelp you then chop it and allow it to sit in water - for vegging or bloomin. Info please :) Am looking at DIY solutions for Kelp among other things . . .

I brew in a 3 Gallon container, about half full, using a small 2 outlet aquarium air pump, but I will be on the lookout for a taller container now, rather than a bigger pump.
All I got in the brew so far, is two cups EWC and half a cup fruit bat guano...

So, couldn't quite find the exact right one - there was with most seaweed products either MSG, Chili, seasoning or some other chemical shit added, but I found this Korean or Japanese seaweed product containing only dried 100% NATURAL SEALAVER (SEAWEED) also written as 100% Algues Marines Roties and something else in gibberish. I was thinking chop it up fine and let it sit in water for a few nights. Since it's all natural shouldn't be an issue right?
If I can use this as a substitute (albeit an expensive 10$ alternative) and then figure out some kind of DIY fish meal thing, then it should work just as well - or?
Pic of front and back...

When I say I'm off to the beach many think I'm gonna surf but I just go to pick up some fresh floated in, sea weed, its great when blazzed, I rinse the sea weed in the local stream, them add it to my tea bucket once home, to rot down over the next 2 years ...just don't have that bucket close to the house as it will stink ..lol...lol the commercial stuff you buy is just the same, but as per you, .. avoid that MSG shit ...lol

Well yes...
I'm not in Thailand BTW, but that's the best I found so far. Next time I'm at a beach, I'll try to find some fresher stuff though...

You can buy into all that paranoid grower bullshit if you want, but think about this. On general, aquatic aquarium life needs around 5-6ppm of DO to live. An aquarium pump rated for a 60gal tank is able to pump enough air into the water to maintain that 5-6ppm of DO, in 60gal. The same pump in a 5gal bucket should be able to put 60-72ppm of DO into the water. And that is before the bubbling, rolling surface starts to add DO. Plenty enough for bacteria, who can still thrive in water with DO levels as low as .1ppm before going anaerobic.

The only difference between an aquarium pump and the paranoid, will buy into anything, grower pump is less work. The bigger more powerful pumps keep the turbulence in the water moving through your tea bag and dislodging the microherds from the soil particles and displacing them into your tea. You can achieve the same results by shaking the piss out of your tea bag in the water. Dropping it to hit the bottom of the bucket repeatedly and bouncing it of the sides of the bucket.

If you don't have the time, or are just too lazy to shake your tea bag every few hours, then by all means go with the paranoid pump to do the work for you. If not, the aquarium pumps offer enough DO, but lack the ability to shake loose the bacteria.

to make a good tea maker..get some new 5 gallon buckets...and at lowes or home depot get the 5 gallon bucket paint strainers..2 to a pack for 3.50.....now get a nice air pump...not some aguarium type..they have no balls....and get some nice air stones also....here is the pump and air stones ....

these are the air stones I use
http://www.wormsway.com/en/eocs202

this is the air pump I use
http://www.wormsway.com/en/eocp272

this is the manifold I use...I can do up to 5 buckets of tea or just one..it has shut offs on each outlet.

http://www.wormsway.com/en/eomd205

also the strainers..I use to fill up with my tea making material....

No, No, and NO!!! You will NOT achieve the same results shaking a bag. This is a science and has been tested time and time again. The goal here is to breed aerobic microbes. I know this is deep, but you're going to need AIR to breed aerobic microbes. You do not want to put your inputs into a bag.

If you want to know about Compost teas, read MicrobeOrganics.com. Tim uses science to test teas and show the microbial multiplication.

Just like you guys said, my cheap 5watt pump didn't do much for my first 5g batch, and then immediately shit the bed when I started the second one. Lol. I need to quit looking for deals and just spend the extra dough when I'm picking up things for the grow.

Anyways, Upgraded to a 20watt and am stoked. Thanks for the info.

Pinworm, take the brass nipple off the pump, use a hacksaw to add some lines, and then get a clamp to hook your hose right to your pump. This will increase airflow by up to 20%. Lmk if you want more instructions I'll post up picts.

Peace!

If you were only brewing a small amount...like say a gallon or two...would the aquarium pump be OK ?
