i hope this isn't a stupid question, but im limited to height space at the moment, and are wondering if it would be better to get a short wide pot instead of a tall one , i know roots grow down but they also grow out as well just filling there space,?
i don't exactly know the science of the root

Personally have height restrictions in a few of my spots, so I've made them sog spots using dishpans.....but thats not the point :) I've found wider is often better as its a more stable base, obviously it will still need to be deep enough to hold enough growing medium aswell..

so the roots will be ok growing more sidways than down?

as long as they have medium to grow , they will go look for water and food ...even up as long as they find a proper medium to grow.
your plants will be just fine dont worry ;).

tall pots with a small footprint provide more medium per m2
short wide pots will still perform well, you can even make one big tray and put all your plants in it.

how much height do you have?

1•5 meters and 1 m wide •5 m deep

COLORFUL-1-1.gif When planted in the ground seed plants have a tap root that goes downwards and
most all of the other roots grow sideways to be able to get to rainwater more easily.
They like to be closest to the surface of the soil without actually being exposed so yes
I would think a wider pot would be better then a tall one.
Clones have no tap root and do like to grow sideways as well and that is why some here like to use plastic kiddy pools for this reason. A partner of mine grew plants this way with great success.

ghb thats true , but what i think is trying to cut on the height of the pots due to the closet short height ..

1,5 meters height ? you will have to train your plants well

mainliner will you use HPS lighthing ?
