This is something I've felt about this site for at least the past year, probably the past 2 years. I think Rollitup has found a fantastic job and totally forfuckinggotten about this side project.. And I'm not at all blaming him, because fuck, what can one person really do? Not much..
We have fucked this forum up. All of us. Not him. One person can't moderate this many people.. The mods employed don't do their jobs. It's as simple as that.. When I was a mod it was so much different. We'd delete posts, people would bitch, we'd respond accordingly. Now, I never see any posts deleted, even the ones that CLEARLY warrant it. There's no controversy, no moderating of hateful or ignorant posts, or substantially uselessly inflammatory posts.. No warnings over purposefully insulting or offending people.. just a free for all. That's one of the biggest problems imo, people feel free to say whatever they want, even if it adds nothing substantial to the thread or serves only to offend someone..

It used to be fun and I personally learnt a lot about a lot of topics from different viewpoints (and trolled a bit but sure who doesn't?).
Now its just "You're racist" "You've a tiny dick" "You're a drunk" "You're a child molestor".

I agree with pretty much everything you said.. I was thinking about this site recently and came to the same conclusion.. It's as if every opposition to any legitimate debate or dialogue is met with "you're this" or "you're that" so you're wrong! It's embarrassing, it's part of the reason I don't post here much anymore and relinquished being mod a long time ago.. Most people here simply don't know what it really means to be "right", or have an objective frame of reference. There are right and wrong answers and opinions, when someone here is wrong, they simply refuse to acknowledge it, remain ignorant and continue holding their incorrect belief. Same thing with extremists.. Same exact patterns..
It is sad, it's really unfortunate, and it leads people away from the site.. If I owned RIU, I would spend a lot more time on the mod positions, I think those are paramount, there needs to be a sense of authority over general posts for any kind of realistic growth to take place.
"You're racist!", "You're a drunk", and more personally, "You're a rapist!"... I feel, are all simply ways to get out of acknowledging the fact that you simply have no other argument than the emotional reaction to said defensive responses.. When someone drops any of those I immediately feel like they've automatically lost the argument.. They have nothing left to fall back on, just like the real racist, or real rapist, but emotion.. No real rational response to your argument, just an emotional counter-reaction to it.. embarrassing.. (Clayton would be proud

I have never deleted any "right wing posts" simply for being "right wing". And never would. I agree with you wholeheartedly about public debate. I am of the belief that if your idea is the best, it will prevail. If it's not, it will fail. Let the public decide depending on how well you are able to present your argument. This is the foundation of the scientific method.
Censorship is not conducive to the scientific method, hence my disagreement with it, naturally..

Cops are not trained to shoot kneecaps and they are trained to shoot until the suspect is down. When you are in danger of your life and split seconds count you dont have time to shoot and then take time to assess if you hit anything much less disabled the threat until it is clear that you did.
The perp was yelling for them to shoot him and when he didnt listen to their commands, they did.
