16k, Soil grow in 30x30 industrial Freezer.

A few days ago i cleaned up this big freezer on the property. Decided to utilize the space, being that it is so well insulated. I was giving hydrofarm 30 1,000 watt ballest only problem is they came out of a green house so the ballast, bulb and hood are all one item.
I made light rails, but there too dang heavy. I may extend the socket for a vertical grow. I have a 3 ton mini-split, 12'' extraction fan, 10" intake. My plans are to set up a soil run, then go back to RDWC. I'm on a serious budget, these lights are killing me. but I will figure it out.
Here are some pics before and after clean up and paint. And I ran 3 240 volt lines, now figuring out how to extend the socket from the ballast.

Just chain the lights. Find the support in the roof, and bolt to it or, drill a hole, run a bolt up, put a square plate with a nut on top. It's what they have done to hold up big cooling units in our freezers at work. Then all you do is run a beer of silicone around top and bottom of hole. The chains and hardware to mount the lights are what is gonna get you.

If your handy, I heard you can separate the ballast, so it is Just like a regular light and ballast, that we all use, except you have to be smart, and it's gonna cost you a ton in electrical and time.

Thanks bomixius. I was thinking the same thing.
It Will be much easier after bolting them to the roof, to just vertically hang the light. Because it doesn't screw back into the hood any way.... But wrong!
I started daisy chaining the sockets to mount the ballest just like you said.
But why not just mount the ballest on the roof... And yes it's covered.
Then I don't have to mount to the sealing.
I just have to make a small hole for the wiring to the socket?
This also keeps Temps down. Not that it should be a problem with the 3 ton mini split.
Any one know what size wire goes to the lamp? It looks like 14 gauge surated.
Look at the date on the freezer door... 1949. Its insulated so well.

Be careful drilling into the walls and ceiling. If it was built in '49 then that wonderful insulation is probably asbestos. I would wear a dust mask at least and rinse the room out after your holes have been resealed before you move in gear and plants... just my 2 cents.

Other than that, I'm jealous. That garden will be capable of great things. Good luck and remember to keep us updated.

I messed around getting throught the insulation, and it was so dusty.....today I find out that it probably does have asbestos.
I did put a mask on about 10 min after being up there. Well im off to finish wiring, and whatever else i can get done.
I will update later.

12" extraction 10" intake, No Co2 until next round. Not looking forward today to cutting the holes needed for the fans.
The walls are 2 feet thick full of old asbestos insulations I have a good mask, but its hot out and i will have to wear long sleeves.
Guess I should stop complaining, and go get it done.

Damn where you at, denver? That's pretty dope! I was looking at warehouses in denver but they are fucking 4 times higher after the legalization thing. The fucking landlords are milking the shit out of it. Im excited to see what happens. Why don't you like soil? Those plants look healthy. I love soil's taste. I went to hydro to coco back to hydro then back to soil. I'm always changing but I'm pretty much stuck on soil now and my customers are too. I always get complaints on my hydro runs but never ever on my soil runs. Damn I wish i could get out of houses and into commercial propertys.
