Most of these older cuts I have tried have been let downs. I think the high regard and hype around them is usually because they were good cuts from a time when there werent many other great cuts floating around, so in comparison they were remarkable.

The reason theyre not as popular as they once were, is that thousands of growers over the last 20 years have had to make the decision (that we all do with our line ups) of what there is room for and what has to go in the trash. The better strains win those little micro competitions and proliferate, and the others dont.

I dont think these clone onlys come from selecting plants from thousand seed pheno hunts. These were covert small time growers and every story Ive heard usually involves growing several bag seeds and picking one.

I can see how tracking down old strains could be fun, in the way some people like to listen to old records for a more genuine experience. I would definitely grow something if someone told me it was the shit in the 90s. But do you think that the crossing thats been done with these strains have really changed them for the worse? I mean yeah theres a lot of shitty strains that have OG in them but I think it is still totally possible to find quality OGs in seed form.

I would have to strongly disagree. I've ran hundreds of og from seed and have been let down. The few clone only's I've ran have blew them out of the water.

Take some time out and listen to Dave on the original post. He goes into depth about the size of the operations and the selecting process.

Though you could be totaly correct about most of the modern cuts being s1's of the original, which would prove that they are coming from great parent stock.

I've been on the search for years for a good og from seed, still am. I've smoked the tk, ghost, sfv, Tahoe, and can say no seed that I've ever popped can compare.

I respect your opinion, I'm glad you took the time to post.

I have to agree with you K. I've been let down by the majority of og beans I've tried, and even the best plants weren't really the same as the og clones I've grown. At best, they might have a certain aspect of the original locked down but more often than not, they aren't anything like the original at all.

It would be hard because males aren't preserved. I would think find a nice og dom male, say a yeti f3 male, breed to the crippie, select, make f2's, look for a crippie pheno, and back cross it.

You're right in many ways... I grow Chem 91 and it's pretty much Sour Diesel which I've grown also a bit different in smell and taste profile but they grow identical. That said the Chem 91 is supposed to be Chems shit from the original bag seed. Amazing strain anyone with skill thats grown her loves it, but its not for everyone due to its lanky branches and huge buds.

My favorite and most patients favorite in my garden is Buddha Tahoe OG grown from a single fem'd Attitude freebie (Cali Connection) and she comes with a story... grew horrible from seed, vegged slow, looked shitty had big fat indica crinkled leaves and only made it in the flower room because I had a gap, fucking incredible smoke. Doesn't really side branch but grown right she can yield nicely and has a OG/Skunk/Chem smell that perfumey just unique as hell.
