Any way to curb plant width?

I grow my plants in a 4.5 Gallon container and they get to be about 1-1.2 Meters tall.

However, they always branch out about 55-65cm and it's taking up too much space.

If I could contain each plant to around 45-50cm, that would be perfect.

Is there any way to do this?

bend your branches up half way down the branch..then train them to grow upwards..just dont snap them.. go slow....done this many times...they heal fast...
 
Won't hurt to cram 'em. What are you worried about?

Also, you can pull the limbs up using a circle or two of a tie. I like strips of women's hosiery. Probably too late for tomato cages but even then they'll grow right thru the hoops.
 
Practice. If your plants are taking up too much space, use less veg time or fewer plants next grow, or build a larger area. After a while of growing the same strain, you become very familiar with how it will fill out over time.

You mean like a reverse Scrog?

I'm not entirely sure how to bend them.. I suppose I could tie them to the trunk but it would take a lot of effort.

I'd really rather just place a screen on the edges of the pot.. but that would inhibit light, right?

Yeah, exactly. It just grows right through it.

I could cram them, but it just doesn't feel right. They either get bent or they end up relying on the support of the opposite stem and then fall when I moving the pot around.

I can't use less veg time because I need them big so I can clone the branches I lollipop and it has to be before they start flowering.

I suppose I could limit the pot size.. but then wouldn't I also be limiting plant height?

If I could build a larger area, I wouldn't be in here, lol.

But it is true that if you cut some stems, off the bottom, the rest of the plant will get bigger, no?

Lollipopping is supposed to take the energy the plant would have yielded to those little popcorn buds and give it to the ones on top.

No, it's another one of those stupid practices you find only in cannabis forums. Read some of the defoliation threads.
 
Lollipopping doesn't work that way.

Any mass you cut off your plant is wasted time. If you're going to lollipop, you need to cut off the lower shoots before they are large.

The purpose of lollipopping is to fit more plants into your area and to shorten veg time. If you're not doing that, it will yield LESS and waste energy.

Cutting lower branches will NOT cause a greater yield on that plant, it will only allow you to squeeze more lollipops closer together.

Wait, I don't understand.

How would it allow me to squeeze more plants together? I'm only cutting the lower branches and they're not nearly as long as the top ones..

I cut the lower branches as soon as the plant starts flowering.. when it's about half of its final size. Is that good?

When you say that it wastes energy.. how is that possible? Would it drink up less nutrients because it has less branches?

In that case, what's the best way to get more more grams per plant?

If you cut off a shoot when it's young, it will waste very little. If you cut off a large branch, it will waste a lot.

Plant mass is carbon, which took a lot of energy to put there. If you're going to cut a shoot, do it before it turns into a branch.

Just keep in mind, without those lower branches, you will need more plants to fill out a canopy.

Trackr your not going to get a lot of help on this thread

Lot of growers on here follow UB
on here and would say the canopy can never be too thick

I like a full canopy but not too thick as it will increase the chance of bud rot in late flower, increases humidty, reduces air flow and if you get spider mite by the time you see them its too late

the buds need space to grow, the tom cage sounds good and my advice would be to remove a lot of the streched shoots

so the plant don't bush out as much :)
